Default Shorty Forty PC value

Hi all,
I saw today in a local store a used Model 4006 Shorty Forty PC Y2000 for Camfour Dist. product #170164.
The gun seems almost new with really few scratches.

It comes with one magazine, no original PC box.
I called S&W Customer Care and they told me product #170164 was made in less than 200 pieces in May 2001 and exported to Italy in same year.

Which price do you think I should pay for this model ?

Thank you.

The better question is, "how much are they asking for it?"

It does have a couple of unique features I haven't seen on Shorty Fortys. Do you have a photo of the reverse side?

The original request is for € 1,000 and I think it can be reduced to € 900 which is about $ 1,200
I wonder if the price is worth or not ...

Here some more pics of the other side
The number #7227 you see, is the Italian gun catalogue proof mark

Wow I have never seen an Italian marked performance center firearm. Is 40 S&W even allowed by citizens in Italy? I know gun laws in Europe are heavily regulated. A dollar to euro comparison in a totally different market is hard to compare. If I were in Italy, was allowed to buy a firearm, and could afford it, I would pay 900 euro for it. Here in the US that firearm would probably fetch $700-$800 but I dont think it is fair to compare.

Hi orangehole,
thanks for your feedback and pricing info.
Normally in Italy all USA guns have a price which has a fx exchange rate €/$ = 1
that means that what normally it would cost in USA 1,000 $ it would cost here 1,000 €

Yes, we can use here 40" S&W.
We can't use 9 mm (9x19 mm Luger) which is reserved to Police and for citizens it has been replaced with 9x21 IMI instead.
Up to 1997 we could'nt use 45"ACP either and it was replaced by 45"HP which has a brass case 2 mm shorters than 45"ACP one.

Default Jump on it for * 900!

Bizio:

actually that is a fair price I believe, not even considering that it is probably much harder to find one in Italy/EU than it is here in the states.

There have been a few on GunBroker recently. One that looks almost exactly like the one you are considering is for sale in Florida for $1050. It is New in the Box (NIB) with all paperwork and factory magazines. I have seen them going for amounts from $900 - $1400 depending on condition. I have been looking myself for one if I find the right deal at a time when I have the money. If you can get it for * 900 I would say jump on it!

I like the .40 S&W a lot, but also shoot 9 mm and .45. However; if they are "restricting you to .40", that's not such a bad thing as it's one of the best overall calibers!

I shoot 180 gr. Winchester Supreme Elite JHP's and Speer Gold Dots in my 4014.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for your suggestions, VTHokiesDuckHunter.

I think I will buy it tomorrow at * 900, the dealer told me he can make this price giving me also one box of ammo and 300 empty brass cases, since I am already realoding 10 mm Auto and I can use all that staff also for 40S&W.

I had a look at GunBroker and found this one which is very similar to mine, but with different ref. #170061

S&W PC Shorty Forty MK3 4006 NIB 40 S&W 40S&W : Semi-auto at GunBroker.com

At Armi Usate a similar model but stainless is sold at * 950

That does appear as the "Shorty-Forty 2000" we had here only the sides of the slide were polished back out stainless for a two-tone look. The guns are well worth $1,200 US, but seldom bring that when they show up sold. If your loading 10mm then all you really need is to switch to the small primers and crank things down, OAL 1.135" max or you'll have feed problems in the mag tube.

That is one of the ones I was referring to. It is one of my favorite S&W 3rd generation pistols, and I think it is one of the best pistols of any brand.

Good luck tomorrow!

As HG356 said, the finish and markings are different from a 2000 model.
The serial number prefix is also different
How do you know it is a 170164 without the original box ?
Thanks

Thanks for your tips, handgunner356.
I have a Lee Classic Turret and a double set of Lee dies for 10 mm/40S&W. I can change dies height in one of the two sets just to reload 40S&W.

Hi Grinder,

I phoned first to Bignami SpA who is the only official S&W distributor in Italy, I told the frame serial number and Bignami confirmed the gun was sold in 2001 and it was with reference number 170164.
I phoned then to S&W Customer Care service and spoke to Bob. I gave him again the frame serial number and he confirmed it is a S&W model 4006 black, ref. 170164 which came out of factory on 05/24/2001, exported to Italy in 2001 and was a special limited edition under 200 pieces for Camfour Distributor ... all the things I had wrote in my first post.

Thanks again all for your suggestions and tips.

I finally got the gun with a 50 ammo Fiocchi 170 Grs box as gift.
I went to the range to test it and, after wasting first 20 rounds since I am used to longer barrels 5" of my 1911's and softer trigger pull, I shot a group of five at 13.7 yards distance (12.5 meters).
