S&W 5906, customized worn out grips
My stock grips on my 5906 had seen a lot of use when i purchased the pistol. So before buying a new set, i figured...why not try some stippling to see how it would look. I enjoy the new grippy feel! And doesnt look half bad

Looks good! (And I usually don't like the home stippling jobs.)
Is it tedious?
Does the plastic stink as you do it? (I'm guessing you poke them with something hot?)

Thank you! It was tedious, but overall only took me about an hour or so. First i sanded it down to make it even and flat. Then i took out my walmart $10 soldering iron, and just made a bunch of dots. I wore a mask, and it did smell terrible so i recommend doing it in an open space if possible.

Interesting!
Does the plastic stick to the soldering pencil and require frequent cleaning?

Each dot was pressed for about 1.5 seconds and with the same pressure each time. It is enough to shape without the plastic sticking the iron. Once you start you will get your own rythem.

Cool!
I'm thinking the sanding made a big difference.
How smooth did you get them?
(I've seen some pretty worn grips that were very smooth in some places.)

Just a little bit, didnt want to take off too much material off of the grips. Next step is a dawson precision fiber optic front sight that is in the mail. Cant wait

Looks great, and thanks for sharing details on your process! Welcome to the forum as well.
I would try out stippling as well if I didn't already have such a good thing going with strips of 3M traction tape. Both methods give good 'grippiness' without adding any bulk or weight, so they're both OK in my book.
BTW Paisitadeoro1, is that a front rail you've added to your 5906? I'd love to hear about how you did it and how it's working out for you, if so.

Thank you! Ive been lurking around the forum for a while as i love s&w's products. I figured it was time to join and share my project. The rail in the front is a Ramlite light rail. It is attached with industial 3M super strength tape that came with the rail and seems to be on there super tight. I put my tlr-3 on there and it works great. Ramlite says that it can be removed without hurting the frame, which is why i tried it.

I bought it about a year ago, and i believe the model i bought was for the 59 series. So im not sure if this 4006 version would fit. I have taken it to the range on aprox. 3 trips and have shot around 250 rounds. Its still on there tight, without any issues or signs of coming loose.

Nice, sounds like a great option for those who like lights/lasers, but don't want to hunt down a TSW with a rail. I might look into this for a LEO 5906 in the future, thanks for the info!
