Default 6944 Finish

Can someone tell me if the finish on the slide is normal? Rust? It only looks brown in certain light and the color is uniform over the whole slide. I purchased at a LGS and didn't notice this until I got it home.

If it's rust what do I need to do to get it back to normal. I've never dealt with rust before.

I believe that is normal, as the #908 I used to own looked like that under indoor lighting, and usually photographed that way too.

The top 5944 in this pic is original and the bottom was GunKoted. You can't see it but in the right light it does appear similar to yours on the top one. In this pic you can see A difference between the frame and slide, you just can't see THE difference you're noticing.

Very nice pistol you picked up there sir, looks pristine.

From your photo at least, it looks pretty normal to me, and also fairly pristine.

It looks like you scored a very nice 5944- congratulations!

I purchased a LNIB 4014 that also can appear slightly brownish on the slide in the right light, but does not appear in any wy to be the type of oxidation one would characterize as "rust"

I'd say carry it, shoot it, and enjoy it. The nice thing is that there are several very reputable gunsmiths that can refinish the slide at any point in the future for not too much expense or trouble. I believe S&W will do this also. In the mean time, I wouldn't worry about it. You probably will never need to have it refinished.
