Here is how I did my 4586:
This is done almost like removing a firing pin and spring on a TDA 3rd Gen.
1. Safely field strip pistol
2. Push firing pin safety in and push firing pin with punch in as far as it will go.
3. Release firing pin safety and then firing pin. The firing pin should stay forward and be projecting out of the hole in the breechface.
4. Now, with a very thin punch, push the firing pin in while at the same time working the firing pin retainer from right to left (as you look down on top of the slide). It's sort of a pain, but the firing pin is the only thing keeping the firing pin retainer from moving out.
5. Once the firing pin stop starts to move out of the slide be careful of a spring and little metal thing that is part of the firing pin retainer. You can see it on the inside of the slide on the left side of the firing pin retainer. It may fly out once it is released when you move the firing pin retainer outside the slide. I keep my hand over it to prevent it from flying.
6. Once the firing pin stop is removed you can then put your hand over the back of the slide, and with a punch, push the firing pin safety...be careful...the firing pin will shoot out at a good rate. Then you can remove the spring from the tunnel.
