Default S&W 669 Info? (PICS Posted)

I recently aquired a S&W 669. It was a police confiscated gun and release back for sale (DOB: Aug 1987). A border patrol officer in Detroit, buys these confiscated guns from a legal source from the Hamtramik PD. After they've cleared NCIC and the 5yr wait.. He gets them for a pretty cheap price, and then turns around and sells them in his shop for reasonably good deals. This way everyone gets a good deal. So I traded my SCCY CPX-1 + $25 for this. Anyway, I used to have a 3913, and loved it very much. It was a popular pistol. However, I can't seem to find a couple specifics about this 669.

Besides the finish, I know the 469 & 669 are the same and use the same mags. But will either gun accept mags from other S&W autos? Like a 59, or 6904 & 6906? If so, do they fit flush? Or stick out the bottom? Also, the screw that sits on the right side of the manual safety, its IMHO god awful *****. Its the Philips screw head. Now I've seen on some peoples pictures what appears to be a torx head or Allen head screw. Anyone know where I can purchase on of these?

EDIT:
Just put in a set of Wolf factory power springs. Took it completely apart and cleaned it out. Except the safety. I had trouble with my 3913 too when I had. How do I remove the safety again? I just want to replace the firing pin spring. Here are some pics. Excuse the dog hair woven carpet. The maid has been lazy this week. Over all condition of the gun is pretty good. Not many dings on it. Not too bad for a police confiscated gun.

I think the 6906 and the 469-669 are the only ones that use that magazine. CDNN has some for sale.

Any 69 series Smith will accept series 59 magazines. The 69 mags are 12 round and come with a plastic butt plate flared pinky rest. Third generation 59 mags are 15 round and they will stick out only about half an inch from the butt. I usually carry my 6906 with either a 5906 15 round magazine or a Mec-Gar 17 round magazine in it. At home I often put a factory or a Mec-Gar 20 round magazine in the gun. You can put a flat plastic generation 3 butt plate on your 12 round 69 magazine to get a shorter over all gun that will hide even better, with no loss of 12 rounds. Just curl your pinky up under the base plate. They are available from S&W for about $3 each.

My second ever pistol was a S&W 459. I love those old 669 pistols. I well remember when they came out. They were nick named "mini guns". They were amazingly small for guns that held that many rounds! You have a darn good gun that will serve you well.

That screw in the safety lever is okay. Just take it out, degrease it and use a drop of the medium strength Loc Tite to keep it attatched to the rest of the pistol. If you really cannot stand it, S&W may have an updated version for no more than $5 plus shipping. I would Loc Tite that one in too.

I have one. I shoot pins most mondays at fx with a 659 14 round mag. You have ambi. Safety or just a screw on the R side? Maybe well have to meet and swap slides. I'm a lefty and no left safety.

Thank you for the tip guys. I'll checkout CDNN for the mags. I'll call S&W Monday and see if they have a updated torx head for this. I dunno, call me picky, I just don't like the site of a Philips screw on a gun, especially a auto. Planning on getting out the range next week sometime to see how it does.
