My newly acquired 3914 has gone through 350-400 trouble free rounds but does this after charging the slide..

Weak spring?

that is not unusual, i have had several guns that do that, s&w and kahrs. as long as you don't pull the mag out it will keep working.

funny you should mention it...I use to have a Kahr e9 that did that sometimes..other than that, I haven't seen in my other semis.
Like I said, the gun runs great.

Completely normal. My 3913 has done it from day one and has never malfunctioned during firing. Regards 18DAI.

All of my single stack S&W 9mm do that. No problem.

VERY normal, for a Smith third generation 9mm. My 6906 AND 5906s all do that. If you go through any kind of pistol course where you often drop your magazine, with rounds in it, after firing a few rounds, you get used to the top round dragging as you pull the mag out or sometimes the top round even pops out loose. Massad Ayoob, who has seen thousands of guns go through his classes has written about this quirk of Smiths. My solution is to just fire to slide lock, THEN drop the mag and reload. :-)
