Default M 59 price?

For the experts here. Just curious. Ran into a gorgeous nickel 59 today while cruising around with a fellow forum member.

The nickel was about perfect, looked like new.
One mag displayed, didn't ask about another. No box or other extras.

Shop owner also had a "minty" , M53 jet and a nice 14-2 single action only. Neither of those were for sale though.

Lots of people lusting after a really nice Model 39-2 in nickel... ... but not so many lusting after the Model 59 in nickel. But when they find one NIB or very, very close... sometimes they are really willing to open up their wallets bigtime!

Most without boxes (but no real damage) seem to sell in the $400-$500 range on that big firearms auction website we all know and love. Damage to the nickel finish brings it down below $400. Boxes bring it up to $600ish or higher. NIB and the sky's the limit. There aren't enough of them for sale or recently sold local to me in order to question what we see on-line in GB completed sales.

Funny thing but you can tell from the above completed sales results that the sellers typically think they are worth a whole lot more than most people are apparently willing to pay. Lots of "reserve not met" results.

Nickel is not my cup of tea. But I thank God for stainless steel.

I'm not big on nickel either but a "minty" 39-2 nickel is the most beautiful gun Smith ever made, imo.

We saw a couple Kimber KS6's, still not impressed at $900+

They wanted 550 for the 59.

Looked for some mags, no dice.

It is very hard to disagree with that point.

... although the revolver guys might want to argue with you about that.

In my view, the factory box (and spare mag, original tools, etc.) is particularly important when you are talking about a gun that is more of a work of art or prized investment piece in today's world rather than a typical, practical/reliable defense weapon. And I say that as the owner of a Model 59, albeit blued, not nickel. I'd rely on any of my 3rd Gens before I'd consider pulling out my Model 59 to go after the bad guys. But my point here is really about price. Without a box, etc., I don't think it would bring $550 on that great big auction website unless it is pristine perfect otherwise and maybe not even then.
