Nickel plated 439?
Saw a nickel plated 439 in my LGS today. The thing is beautiful. DA & SA trigger are very nice. Black protected rear sight adjustable for elevation & windage. Front sight is bare white. Controls & hammer are black.
The pistol does not appear to have been fired very much and has obviously been meticulously cared for. A clean gun in the consignment case!
Went home & checked my SCS&W. No mention is made of nickel plated 439s. Could this be refinished? If so they did a flawless job. But I would expect a nickeld gun from the factory to have more or less matching controls, or at least go full pimp with gold highlights.
I really need a single stack 9mm like I need a hole in the head, but if I've stumbled across something...

I had a nickel factory 539. No reason it couldn't be original.

I believe they did make nickel plated 439s and the 39 series is a great single stack pistol, ergonomics are what Id say the best! Id be back in there doing some bargaining .

Later nickeled 39-2's will sport blued components, such as the safety lever, hammer, trigger, and slide stop.
I'd be more concerned about the originality of that 439's finish if all those small parts were nickeled (or gold plated, for that matter).

Thanks for the replies.
I guess I need to decide if I really want it. The price is right in line with the SCS&W, which is pre-obama & non Kalifornia, but it does have a set of... ummm... "different" kind of grips that will need to be replaced, so I guess that balances out. With the right set of dark cocabolos that pistol would be drop dead pretty without being garishly "pimp.".

Yes, they made a nickel 439. I have original box with mine. It has a "N" under finish on the label. You are correct.....they are a beautiful pistol.....almost like a piece of jewelry......
