Smith & Wesson Performance Center 356 TSW
I purchased a few months ago a Smith & Wesson Performance Center in the caliber 356 TSW. This has a frame mounted safety, like you would see on a 1911. It has a single side safety. If any of you have any info you could share on this pistol it would be of great help. I did have it lettered from Roy Jinks, but other then it was shipped out as a Model 4006 and that it was possible built by the Performance Center after it was originally sold or as a special and shipped as a standard Model 4006. Thanks for any and all help.
Sincerely,
THE ROLLING STONES

.356 S&W
Standard .356 has a slide mounted safety, and flat black finish with side flats polished to present a pinto appearence.I don't think it would take much to convert a 4006 to .356. I use .40S&W magazines in mine. More info would require 1 or 2 pictures.
Hope this helps.

sandwtrader,
I understand what you are saying, but the frame mounted safety like what is on a 1911 just on the left side of the pistol. This pistol does not look anything like the Smith & Wesson Performance Center Model 3566 in 356 TSW or any 4006 Smith & Wesson. I have some of each in the 3566 Smith & Wesson Performance Center of all the sizes and very aware of what they look like.
Sincerely,
THE ROLLING STONES

Sounds like a 1911 in 356 TSW. If you can't post a pic how about listing all the markings on the pistol and any other identifying descriptions and features (barrel length, finish, magazine, etc.).

RufusG,
As stated in my first post it is on a Smith & Wesson 4006 Frame. It uses the double stacked 356 TSW 15 round magazines, 5" barrel and is a mattie stainless steel finish.

Very pretty. Looks like one of a kind. Not sure how much of that is still "third gen".

Wow, I am jealous in a good way. I remember reading about the Team's single action double stack 356's. Congratulations. That is a good catch.

I have a copy of the custom options available in the custom build years.
I'll email it to you when I find it.
Definitely a menu PC custom.
NICE .

Normally yes on the above
Most of the customs I've seen have special serials chosen/requested by the orderer/owner
I believe if no special serial number was requested, the PC chose the number and the PCZ was an open prefix
Could have been a shooting team gun also
Just based on my observations over the years

I found a little info on this.
It was called the "Competition pistol"
5" barrel
Adjustable single action trigger
.40 11 round or .356 15 round
Blue or SS
Special frame mounted thumb safety
Custom 3 piece grip
Very limited quantities
Undetermined list price

I bet that could be converted to 9mm with a 952 barrel, although I dont think I would shoot it much. I would shoot it though...

Awesome pistol! Damn, I wish S&W would make examples like that again! If they made good size run of those, the .356 may have caught on.

Late getting to the thread but many years ago I had a Briley built 5906(?) converted to 356TSW in single action with a slide mounted safety. I shot it for a few months but didn't care for the fat grip and my dainty hands. It was a very reliable and pleasant shooter. It was for the USPSA matches and about the time S & W pulled back from USPSA for awhile.

Bad Man One - Thanks for e-mail.
The Rolling Stones - Nice piece. Very few made for the competition team. Safety was designed by Liebenberg and the beavertail was also a Liebenberg addition for the perfect high hold which he continues to build on all his 1911's today. Sides of beavertail relieved so extra flesh in web of hand have a place to go.
VERY few had the privilege of owning this extreme custom PC gun so it should be a VERY short list of who owned it originally. Congratulations on owning a fine and rare piece of PC history.
Hope this helps.
