Default How does a 4506 compare to the lighetr 4566 shooting them

My next gun will be a 4506 or 4566 so asking.
I have had 1911's since age 17 and hand load so I can and do adjust loads I shoot for what they need to be. So know that 45acp is slow heavy and can be loaded as factory. Or down loaded to be a real paper punching cream puff if ya want or a wow.
I have a 5906 I got new and was a carry gun when I worked at the bar. And added a 6906 last year also new in box was Ca. Dept. corrections gun never issued.
I know it is much more a pleasure to carry and well balanced once a filled magazine is in it. But is a bit snappier than the all steel and slighly larger gun.
Will the 4506 and 4566 be the same way as the 5906 and 5906 with say factory 45acp. Or pretty close?
I would like to be able to enjoy shooting it same as I do the 1911's?
Would like to add a big brother to these boys

Shooting a 4516 back to back with a 457 I don't notice any recoil difference. But then I am focused on the target, not the recoil :-).

I have shot both and I perceived slightly more recoil with the 4566. That must be the reason I have sold all three 4566's that have passed through my hands.

My 4566 weighs ~ 1/2 ounce less than my Colt 1911 - so I wouldn't consider it a "lightweight" .45.

I make no secret I love the 4506. That said, I perceive the recoil with the 4506 to be a tad bit lighter than the 4566. It definitely is lighter than the 4563. Just my opinion and perception.

I have a 4506-1 ,a 4566,and a 4516. All three were duty guns at the PD.Started with the 4516 then the 4566 then the 4506-1. The 4506-1 is an awesome pistol and built like a tank. The 4506-1 is very accurate and recoil is slightly less than the others . muzzel flip and muzzel blast is a lot worse on the 4516 but it's a lot easier to carry. A fellow officer got in a shootout with a thug and the thug fired first hitting the officers 4506.The bullet hit the slidestop lever taking it of the pistol. It also hit the decocking lever breaking it off also. The bullet also damaged the grip. I know this sounds crazy but it's the gospel truth. The officer still fired two rounds killing the thug even with the damage sustained to his 4506.You can't go wrong with either one.

I'd say that there is little difference in shooting the 4506-1 and 4566, for me. Both models are bet you life reliable and the four I currently own are all tack drivers.

There is a little more difference shooting between the 5906 and 45XX series, again, for me. The 5906 has very little felt recoil using range fodder ammo. The 45XX series will still......move around a bit more during firing. Plus I feel the 45 "push" in my hand rather than the slight snap from the 9mm.

The 45XX series are great pistols. I bet my life on them daily and I'm still here. Try them out, I predict you will be very pleased. Regards 18DAI

To me, the difference between shooting a 4506 and a 4566 is like the difference between shooting a 5" Government Model 1911 and a 4.25" Commander 1911.
