Default Performance Center Model 41

Davidson's has an exclusive on a Performance Center version of the Model 41. Is it something seriously special, or just a marketing tactic? Any feedback from someone that has actual experiance with one appreciated.

I was lucky to get one. Nice looking pistol, Barrel is completly different. My salesman at Davidson did not know how many where going to be made, we got the last 3 he had and we are hoping to get more.

Smiths SKU is 178031

I tried to get one over the past month with no luck. Guess I looked in the wrong place. Actually "settled" for a normal version which I am sure is a better shot than me.
Other than looks and weighting and optics function could you tell much difference while shooting? Please do a review sometime, that would be interesting.

Different looking : the front sight looks awfully fragile sticking up there like a shark fin. (Photo from Davidson's) Of course, I believe the idea is to mount optics on it.

In any event, they look nice to my eye and it could turn out to be a good invetment too.

All the custom work must have lightened it up some. How does the balance feel?

Question

I have not seen how Davidsons is advertising it, but that SKU would not indicate a Performance Center firearm.

All PC guns start with 170

178 indicates it is a hybrid like the Pro series. In other words it is a production firearm with some Performance Center features or enhancements.

sgtbly can verify my hypothesis by telling us if the logo on the firearm itself is a S&W logo or the PC logo

I don't know if it's from the performence center or not but that's what Davidson's is calling it.

www.GalleryOfGuns.com - Gun Genie - Davidson's most popular and powerful search engine to find and buy guns at galleryofguns.com

I see they lightened the barel configation by milling the scope base into the top of the barrel but I cannot figure out why they loacted the front and rerar sights so high above the barrel.

Butt ugly in my book - but everyone has his/her styles. Wonder what the ladies think of it?

I'm not a fan of it either but I'm a traditionalist. It looks like they just milled a rail into the barrel, pinned on a flimsy sight and put some different grips on it.

Maybe to keep sights above rails to remove optical sites?

edit: maybe an effort to get some visibility under target?

Puebloshooter,

Go to the S&W web site, look up the gun, and click on the "gallery of guns" box. That will put you in Davidson's (a gun distributor) Gun Genie program. From there you put in your zip code and can get quotes from gun shops near you that will buy it from Davidsons and ship it to your local shop where you can buy it. Of course, you have to commit to buying it online through a deposit. Hope this helps.

My Gun dose say performance Center on the slide. It also comes in the grey PC plastic case. The barrel looks kind of like one of the ones you can get from Clark. I think the sights look like they are really high because of the rail milled into the barrel and the front sight doesn't have the ramp the sight sits on.

Unfortunately I have not had a chance to shoot it yet.

Anyone ever seen any other PC 41s? The standard catalog only list 1 with only 10 made and no photo.

I could do without the glossy wood but if the barrel makes any difference I'd love to see what she can do!
