Default 1066.....My Search Is Over

For several years I have been looking for a 1066 or 1076 and was even willing to give up a prized Browning Hi Power for trade. Thank goodness the Hi Power is still mine and so is a like new in box 1066. I am really impressed with the quality of the gun and being a die hard 1911 guy....it takes a lot to impress me. I opened the box and left work early to head to the range with a box of Hornady 200gr. XTP. I had no idea what would come of the session....but I am very pleased. After puting two mags through the gun to get familar with the trigger, I hung a targer and well I was amazed at the accuracy and reliability. I also tried several different brands and bullet weights of other 10mm ammo. Looks like I need to find a new IWB carry holster!!!

Glad you like the new pistol. I use a Comp-tac Minotaur made for a Sig P226 to carry my 1066. It works great and no adverse effects on the finish to date. One of our Forum members reported that a Galco Avenger holster for a 226 worked for his 1066. I work at a gun shop part-time and did some trial fitting. While no all-kydex 226 holsters have yielded an acceptable fit, the half-kydex Minotaur worked very well. Plus it supports the big gun well. I see you like the Brownings, too--I also carry my BHP in a Minotaur. Good luck.

Oldherkpilot,
The Minotaur is a nice holster, I have two of them. I will probably have a custom maker like Tucker, Milt Sparks or one of the others I have make not only an IWB & shoulder rig as well.

Ok all you fine fellows in the know....the gun came with a magazine that has a yellow follower and two other S&W marked mags with completely different looking white followers. What is, if anything the significance of the two different colors and is one better than the other? The target was shot with the yellow follower and the preceding get to know the trigger rounds were shot from the other two mags. None had any problems whatsoever.

I have not had any issues with either of the followers in my magazines.

S&W did an enhancement recall for Law Enforcement only...
Followers - all yellow followers were recalled for law enforcement and new white (10mm) and black (45) were furnished with newer heavy duty magazine springs. This was an enhancement and not a total recall, hence LE only got the free treatment. You can call and if they authorize the free replacement the magazines must be returned to the factory. They are very fast returning them.

MidwayUSA sells the white followers if you wish to swap them!

There were two types of yellow followers. The first had a 45 degree bevel on the front, the second has the same profile as the current white followers. The white followers are the latest. I've had not problems with any of them.

The yellow followers are found in magazines marked with an "ES". The white followers are found in magazines marked "ES 1". The latest ES 1 magazines also have wording that says "Accu Glide" on them.

I found all to be excellent mags.
