Default Spurless Hammer, 4506

K, looked thru past posts. Found mentioned only 1 model (645) that can 'donate' a spurless hammer to the 4506. Problem is I can't locate this item.

Does anyone have 1st hand (or 2nd) knowledge of other models which will donate a 'drop in fit' spurless hammer for my 4506?

I am not sure if this will fit. The 4516 has a bobbed hammer and is the compact version of the 4506. You might check that out.

Micro,

I have a 4566 (well, two actually). I wanted to dispose of the blued MIM hammer for a hard-chromed bobbed unit.

Look at Numrich (Numrich Gun Parts Corporation) under 6906. You'll find them there. You will have to cannibalize the hammer stirrup from your 4506 to complete it. The outlay (if you want to call it that) in labor is well worth the time.

Where are you in SoCal. If you're in the I.E., try my friend, Bill Burris at The Shootist in Murrieta. He can do it easily for you.

If you really want to 'pimp' the gun, send your trigger into Mag-Na-Port and have the trigger contoured and polished. The Wilson Combat 17# hammer spring is also a worthwhile modification. The spring and trigger make my 4566 break at a crisp 8lbs DA and about 3.5lbs SA with virtually no creep.

The S&W 3rdGen autos are some of the most underrated guns out there. They are Russian T34 tank-strong and have the short reset on the trigger (10+ years before SIG brought it out).

Hope it goes well for you!

All the Best,

Like the last poster said, you can use a spurless hammer from a 6906, but you will have to change it's shorter strut for the longer one on your 4506 hammer. I set my 4506 up that exact way. Plus the top of the hammer is serrated, so thumb cocking is possible by starting the hammer back with the trigger, catching it with your thumb, then release the trigger and thumb cock fully. Less time to do it than read this.

CAUTION!

Practice "thumb cocking" ONLY with a tripple checked unloaded pistol. NEVER with a live round, unless preparing to fire at a safe target.

Thanks all, good info. I had a compact 3rd gen 9mm so I've got some familiarity with the hammer & strut. After I wrote this I recalled getting a spur-less serrated tip hammer for my compact 45. Now, providing I can control my CRS, I'll dig through my junk box for it & transplant the strut.
