Another Pawn Shop Find :-)
Yesterday, I stopped at one of the pawn shops that I frequent. (I had just been in there two weeks ago and bought a Bulgarian Makarov) I looked in the display case and low and behold at the bottom of the case I see a Model 1076. It had a price of $625.00. I asked to look at it and checked it over. It looked to be in good condition. I told the guy I just did not have that kind of money right now and I was going to have to pass on it. He said hold on let me check with my manager, I'm going to make you an offer that your not going to be able to turn down. I went over to look at the guitars and a few minutes later, he calls to me and says how about $400.00 out the door. I like to have pulled a shoulder muscle pulling my wallet to pay him (before he changed his mind). I know this is a long post but, I have rarely gotten a deal like this. The serial number is TFK64XX. I notice that the hammer rebounds while dry firing, but I did the pencil test and it functions fine. (Someone may have replaced the mainspring with a lighter spring or heavier firing pin spring or both.)

Serial number TFK64XX is very likely an FBI pistol. You might want to consider requesting a Jink's letter. Super find.

No, JK, but I would like to see it. I do love it when someone gets a deal, whether by luck, or hard work. Great find my man

Gosh I love great deals on Smiths! I've come across a couple of my own, and I enjoy those guns even more because of it. Congrats.
Now where's the pics?

None of the pawn shops around here display their handguns. They all use GB to sell them on... Would love to see something like this once and a while.
I know someone suggested it could be an FBI, one quick way to tell is the safety. If i'm not mistaken, and I am not an expert on them, but if the safety is a lever on the side of the frame, good chance it is and FBI...
Hope your shoulder is feeling better... You got a good steal on it!!!

If it were only that simple. All 1076's, FBI or non-FBI have the manual decocking lever. There are some particular nuisances that can help a person tell if it is one or not but nothing is 100% besides a factory letter. Great buy either way for sure.

Thanks for that info. I wasnt sure. I have seen other 10XX models that have the traditional slide decocker/safety so I put the two and two together and thought the lever version was for the FBI.

Dandor,
DANG! I've got cousins in Lincoln cty TN and some crossbreeding cousins in No. Alabama. It looks like I'm gonna have to make some time to go pawn shopping south of the state line sometime soon.
