Default Can I See Your S&W .45 Autos?

Being a sixgun fan I didn't own a practical, modern, reliable, autoloader. But I wanted one. It had to be 9MM or .40, D.A., and achieved classic status already just because I like cool stuff when I can afford it. So I got this 39-2 with box and papers for $400 which is way less than the brand new stuff out there. I bought Executioner elk bone grips while waiting ten days for it.
Now I'm interested in a S&W .45. I know these will be more modern but I was wondering if you folks can show me yours, especially if they have any fancy touches to personalize it for you. Thanks ahead of time, everybody. Here's that 39 -2 I got and posted here before. To me this is the ultimate in a 9MM. Let's see your big bores. Compact OR full size.

@Black Sheep,

I am in love with your 645. I couldn't afford one when they came out...I was in college then and owned a Model 59 and a 659...and no one would consider trading those for one at the time. I now have a 4506 but would enjoy a 645 like yours...phillips screw on the right side and all.

My S&W 45s...

My 645 has an allen head screw on the ambidextrous safety (SN# TAK 17XX) The darn thing would never stay tight until I put a little blue loctite on it.

My recently acquired Chief's Special 45 has become one of my favorite CCW pieces. Hard to imagine a compact .45 Auto that is more accurate or easy to shoot. Wish I'd have purchased one years ago before I tried and hated several other compact .45's!

Here's my 2 945's. One 5" and a 3", really nice guns. I actually bought the 3" to carry, got hot on the model while waiting to pay for it as I put it on layaway at S&W Retail store. I did my usual web search on it and found the 5" model on GB and bought that one too. Very nice to shoot, but then I realized the 945-1, 3" model was a little expensive and nice to carry concealed.. So hence the SW1911's came into the picture, have to do the whole family portrait soon.

Default Howdy Matt!

Hi Matt,
Nice 39.
I have had a couple of 645 and 4506's that I put a lot of rounds through and loved them. They proved very reliable for me.
One of the assets of a 1911 style has over them is the slew of .22 conversions available for them.
I can pull the slide stop and replace the upper in seconds and have another option for my woods walks.

Thanks
Mike

Had plans to get a 945 but got sidetracked big-time on revolvers.
Local gunsmith made up the left hand safety for me on the 745, I'm a southpaw.

Take Care, Kevin

Here's my 4566, once issued by the Rome, NY PD. It's a pleasure to shoot and, like all 3rd gen S&W's I've met - thoroughly reliable and combat accurate. It weighs ~ 1/2 oz. more than my 1911 Colt 45.

This is what used to be my 4516-2. Like everybody on the forum, I sold it in an act of stupidity. It was a great pistol.

Kevin G's 745 with that ambi. safety is especially nice, though I'd go with a D.A. Great assoertment of big bore autoloaders, everyone.

OK, I think I just realized I have been buying all 3rd gens, and need to add a 645 or 39-2 or some similar model that I can get some great grips for!

Those are some nice pistols guys! In the mean time I'm saving up for a new S&W 1911.

Good for you! Mine is not an E series but they make and E in the same configuration. I think it looks good and I know it shoots!

Post if you pick it up...would like to see the E version.

I did it. Pick it up tomorrow.... very nice gun, I like the scallop machining on the front and back of the slide. The trigger felt real nice, crisp and sharp. The grips, are really sweet, the balance and weight are surprisingly comfortable. The worse part about it was the gun next to it in the showcase. Another SW1911es, it's 4.25" barrel with the shorter grip, seven round mag and scandium frame, I been wanting one of them too... I turned my buddy onto iut for $650, it was mint.

Here's apicture from S&W catalog

Great looking collection Dick. I just added to mine this morning. Picked up my new E series SW1911. Been wanting one since I 1st saw them, I'll try to get a decent picture of it and the rest of the 45 family soon...

That's interesting, the few that I've seen have been adjustable. I'm not usually looking for 2nd generation pistols, but this 645 was pristine with box and all paperwork. So . . . I caved.

It's hard to believe how revolutionary the 645 was when they came out. very cool.

Default This is my only 4506

I personally like this version best, curved trigger guard, factory front night sight, and adjustable rear. I bought it off my neighbor a while back. Wonderful pistol. I still prefer the 4566, but this one is a very close second.

That's a great gun, I've always wanted one of these, but by the time they were legal in Mass, I had bought the 945-1 PC 3" gun for almost double the cost of the Pro 3"... This past weekend I saw the Pro 3" from Lew Horton... 2 tone with E series grips.... wow!!!!! fit my hand like a glove, loved the cosmetics and I could see myself carrying it alot...
