I just came home with my new Model SW1911TA E-Series. It is black and has the accessory rail. I realize it is not the traditional 1911 but it represents my take on what I like in the current handgun market as a mix of the old and tested and the new and useful. Never had a 1911 before so it will take some getting accustomed to but the gun is beautiful. I love the crisp drop of the hammer and the feel of the full weight. I was shooting an M&P 45 and 9mm which I traded for this. I was happy with the M&P's but I have always wanted one of these and this just fits my hand the way I want it to. If money was no object I would have kept the M&P 9 but not at this time. Who knows, maybe I will find another 9 somewhere down the road but for now I have no complaints.

The E series rail gun that I handled was really nice.

Just picked up one yesterday myself. Congrats, I'm sure you'll love it. I'm watching Guns and Gear on Versus tv... next segment is on the new E series 1911...

I have a TA and PD and Love them, GREAT guns.

The only thing non-traditional about your 1911 is the full length guide rod and the external extractor...at least as far as I know...maybe the front slide serrations and enlarged beaver tail. Most will say that there is no noticeable functional difference between the short guide rod vs. full length...the gun performs equally well either way. The external extractor is a bit more of a talking point as it is argued on both sides that one is better than the other. It has been said that even John Browning himself designed guns with external extractors, they work fine. The E series did away with the firing pin block that was part of the design of the previous S&W 1911's.

I can see the attraction of the original but the new one's are still 1911's! I have two S&W 1911's...one E series and one not. They both perform the same...PERFECTLY!

I love my E Series SW1911, I've owned a lot of 1911s over the decades and this one rates as one of the best. S&W got this one right.

I too own the E Series TA Model. It is a great 1911 IMO. The most Bang for the Dollar I've spent on a handgun in years.
