Default This magazine Must Have A yellow Follower

I recently went to a local gun shop and purchased several used magazines to use in my S&W model 4566, 45ACP. One of the magazines purchased has on one side the words "This magazine Must Have A yellow Follower." The other magazines that I purchased do not have this on them. All magazines work in the model 4566 with no problems. I am just curious as to what the significance is of those words on the magazine.

The yellow and orange followers will not interchange, one of them has a cut out at the top rear the other does not. For this reason they marked the mags, however the latest black follower will work in any mag body so you can replace the yellow with black.

Exactly. I have used the black follower in every type of 45xx mag with great results.

Yellow (and orange) were used in the early '90s. Blue is latest revision for .40 S&W.

The .45 mags went from orange to yellow to black.

The 10mm is still white. Since the guns were discontinued, there was never a revision for the mag followers

My 4506 was purchased with two mags that had the orange followers. I ordered two extra mags later and they were yellow. The others I have are black. I've replaced the older ones with black followers with no problems.

Thanks for the helpful information on the 45 mag followers ... any idea when the changes took place ... specifically which color follower would likely have shipped with a 4506 in April 1989?

[oQUOTE=KurtC;136177925] ... The .45 mags went from orange to yellow to black.

My best guess is that April ‘89 and 4506 would be the orange followers.
