Sadly, I'm afraid the model 52 is not likely to be produced again. The pistol was designed to shoot in the center fire portion of the NRA 2700 match but most shooters preferred to use the 1911 pistol for both the center fire and .45 portions of the match, since you don't have a change in the feel of the pistols. Also, I feel that the 1911 is a little more forgiving than the model 52 if you are a little off. The model 52 is a superb pistol, it shoots extremely well, when the shooter does everything right and it should hold its value well. It seems that there is nothing that enhances value like a discontinued product, especially Smith & Wessons. I really like mine because I acquired a fair amount of wadcutter ammunition over the years (we were issued ammo for practice at work when we used revolvers) and it's perfect for the model 52.

Take care,
Steve

building them required a lot of handfitting, which is not the current manufacturing vogue. doubt they could sell them today for what they would have to charge. that's if they still have people who could build them.

I am looking at a later 52-2 (newer style box). Its NIB. Is a 1000.00 fair? I have not really looked around. Its in the late 80's /early 90's box. as if it was brand new.

Default I'm no collector

Hi Fighter62,
I'm no collector but if you are I would think that is a decent deal. I see used ones bringing that or close to it.
If you intend to shoot it I would look for a used one. I still see them in usable conditions for $600.00 to $800.00 and there would be little or no loss if you shoot them.
Best of luck
Mike
