Default Collector Grade S&W 1911

What would be a sought after, rare, hard to find, collector grade S&W 1911? I'm familiar w/ some other name brand 1911's, but never really gave it much thought that S&W was also made some 1911's. Please feel free to way in on the subject and I welcome advise from the S&W experts.

Thanks,

I believe they have an "Anniversary edition" for this year. Otherwise there are 4 or 5 other engraved limited editions. Will try to post pics & additional info as I find it.

100th Anniversary (Only 500 made)

In 2004, there was a limited production run of 5 specially embellished 1911 with rosewood grips with S&W medallion each retailled around $1136. The 5 embellished models were:
1. "United We Stand" Production:Not listed (*Often complained about reversed "gold duck head")

2. "Long May it Wave" Production:250

3. "Land of the Free" Production:250

4. "Stars and Bars" Production: Not listed
5. "Mexican Eagle" Production:500

Wish you luck if you desire the "Stars & Bars" or "Mexican Eagle". I have only been able to find reference to them in the S&W Standard Catalog.

Another one I have seen is the "MIA Rolling Thunder," which I believe only 500 were made.

There is also another Limited Edition a member here had posted awhile back. Pictured below, which is according to owner's contact with S&W is 1 of 231.

Have seen reference to a limited edition "NRA 1911," not quite sure as to production amount. The serial number on the below gun would put production to around late 2004 to 2005.

The estate sale I went to on Saturday sold a 100th anniversary S&W (nib case) for $1150. I passed looking to buy the 1076. I thought that was a great price.

There are two that I would suggest if you want the finest 1911 pistols that S&W ever built. One of them is much more rare than the other.

The first run of Performance Center 1911 has a JMB prefix and these were the finest 1911 pistols that S&W ever built EXCEPT for the… Doug Koenig edition PC 1911-2 in .38 Super.

That pistol carried an original MSRP that was quite lofty when it was new, few were made and they trade for big bucks.

But if you want the finest and the rarest and the hardest to find, it’s going to be the Doug Koenig PC 1911-2 in .38 Super.
