Default BodyGuard Mag releasing issue

So I got this bodyguard from a friend yesterday who bought it new (so I know it's very well taken care of) and it came with two magazines. Both S&W, one with the finger ext and the other without.

My problem is with the mag that has the extension. When I pull it out of my pocket and when I just hold it in my hand I can pop the magazine out without hitting the release button.

This doesn't happen when there's no rounds in the mag, only when it does.

Has this happened to anyone else? I'm going to the local gunshop tomorrow to see what other ammo is available with a different shaped projectile.

I had an issue with one mag. It had the spring reversed from the factory. It didn't allow the catch to fully engage when the mag was full. Reversing the spring fixed the problem.

I have the exact same problem. I can be holding it and wiggle the mag just a little and it pops out. What's even worse is when I was firing it for the first time at the range it was falling out and feeding the next round up straight. Scared the **** outta me. We sent it to S&W but nothing changed when they sent it back

Yep same problem here. If you look into the mag well at the release you can see that the edge has either been worn or broken off..... Still no luck on getting mine fixed... now it is a rock with a laser pointer on it.....

My M&P BG mag will not come out even if I twist, hit, pull or rock it back and forth. I bought mine last week and you have to press the mag release pretty far for it to eject the mag. My Serial number starts out KCJ XXXX.

Mine did too (release during firing) and was starting to do it with all my mags including Magpul, which went in very tight. I noticed that there is a space between the floorplate and the bottom of the grip. When I pushed back on the floorplate the mag would release. Here's what I'm gonna try. Thin piece of adhesive back velcro (first thing in my toolbox the looked like it was the correct thickness) stuck to the front side of the grip. Doesn't interfere with the mag insertion or release but takes the 'flop' out of it.

I just cycled all three of my mags, the 2 factory and the Magpul and no problems. I am gonna install something more "factory" looking but I think I found the problem. I just can't believe that someone smarter than me couldn't or didn't solve this problem!

Just checked all three factory mags, two finger extension & one flat. No problems. I've run over 600 rounds of FMJ and HP and this little gun is just amazing. I may be lucky (all my previous micro pistols have been jam-o-matics), this has become my EDC.

Some guns work out of the box and some don't. Just trying to help. Mine's already been back to the factory for Insight Laser failure (which they fixed by installing a Crimson Trace) but the mag problem was ignored. Good luck on yours though! If you can stake your life on it, then you've got a good gun. I had doubts.

Default Mad Mag release

Got the new M&P BG 380 auto w/o laser a few months ago: put about 250 rounds thru it then all of a sudden began to experience the mag release issue, my grip didn't suddenly changed, I thought perhaps it was the Mag, however, it did the same thing with all four of my mags....it would release after each round fired with or without the Mag extension, this went on for 75 rounds , ..............seems to me that plastic at that point of contact is wearing prematurely, perhaps S&W should look to a metal solution ............called S&W they are sending me a return lable

Yesterday I noticed that if I load my Magpul, chamber a round and replace that round in the mag it will still pop out even with my modification. My two S&W mags don't though. So I just won't carry the Magpul unless it has only 5 rds in it.

In reading back over all this I wonder if any right handed shooters might be hitting the mag release accidently w/their thumb. The reason I pose this is b/c I'm a leftie but learned to use the semi-auto w/the mag button on the left side. I once shot a S&W w/the mag release reversed to the right side and kept knocking the mag out w/my right thumb over and over again.

Not in my case. No fingers near the the release but the third finger rests solely on the front of the floorplate, pushing it back.

I don't have the mag release issue. (Nice, at least ONE of the BG380 issues has missed me). I did have to reverse the spring on one of my mags last night, though. The follower wouldn't move the slide stop up when the mag was empty. Replacing the hammer spring to an aftermarket one fixed the light strike issue, but with a 12lb trigger pull now. Mine also went back to Smith and came back unchanged/unrepaired. That seems to be a pattern.

I have a hard time believing that S&W, as famous as they are, will not correct hard trigger pull and mag release problems. The trigger on these guns is unacceptable and prob'ly costing them a lot of lost sales! I know that if I had it do over again, I would probly bought something else.

Yep, if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't buy the BG380. And, I wouldn't have sold one to a customer. And I wouldn't have sent mine in to Smith if I'd have known that they would send it back to me with the identical issues.
But, going forward, I won't make that mistake again. If their sales numbers mean that they can ignore my experience, and my customer's experience, and they feel fine with that, and the bean counters have determined that the level of customer service and experience is sufficient for them to stay in business, so be it. I know where their interest lies, and where my future business lies. We all make choices.

If you see my previous post you will note that I have had no problem with the magazine ejecting out by itself, but I didn't try the one without the extension, so I loaded it up with 6 rounds and wala I have a problem.
My problem is that the magazine will not lock into place when full, but will seat and lock if only 5 bullets are loaded into it. The magazine without the extension doesn't have the the same amount of movement pressing down on the full magazine as the one with the extension.
I will contact S&W about the problem.

I need to make a correction. I have been mistakingly referring to problems my Magpul mag. It is actually a PROMAG! Sorry for the misinformation and my apologies to Magpul!

S&W sent me a spring kit which solved the problem, but the rep did state that the springs inside the magazine might need to "Break in." I find that comment disturbing, especially when I depend on this weapon to protect my life.
Problems and little snafu's are part of anything produced and S&W's quick reaction to my problem was promptly addressed. This Bodyguard fits my "ultra deep concealment" needs when my Sig 938 is just a tad to big/heavy.

A friends wife mentioned at the range last weekend that she was considering a 380 as her pc. She is an avid and experienced shooter. I gave her my BG and warned her that the trigger would be suspenseful but to understand the 'benefit' (if there is one) to that. After the 2nd round the trigger snapped. Thinking it was a light strike I told her to keep firing. Then the mag fell to the ground. She won't be buying a BG.

Default same problem!!!!

I love S&W pistols. I have numerous 9mm & 40's and a 44 mag revolver. I got a great deal and purchased 2 Ruger LCP 380's with laser for my wife and I and they work flawlessly. So I thought purchasing a S&W bodyguard 380 would be even better. I looked and found a used one in great condition with 4 magazines. Loaded the magazines and inserted into the pistol and the clip fell out. Tried all 4 and all fell out. Very disappointing and now here I am on here.
