Just picked up 457--don't tell the wife
Bought on Gun Broker, model 457, 45 , can't wait to shoot it. Great condition and actually feels lighter than my 669 9mm, single stack vs double stack i guess. Any others with this model and your comments? This is the 2 tone model.

I find mine very easy to shoot well. You have to be sure the mag is locked in. That can be a bit tricky.

The 457 is the most under-rated S&W ever! They are great.

great gun, under-rated and under-appreciated. Thats ok though as it keeps the price down, making them a true value. Hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. A sweet shooter, accurate and digests all ammo I've ever fed through it.

I have two, and agree that they are an overlooked gun. Mine digest anything I've put through them. It's my main carry gun; alloy frame for lighter weight and small enough to conceal pretty well. It's physically a little bigger than my 908, but for stopping power I'll take eight from a .45 over nine from a 9mm.

I concur with all BaldEagle speaks.
Overlooked, but a fine S&W 3rd generation piece. No doubt it will serve you well. Just do your part.

Mister G, like you, I picked up a 457 on GB, about 2 weeks ago. Mine was blue. It is my first 45. Just got it this week and shot it tonight. It worked fine, was in great shape, accurate, and was surprisingly light. I do like the size of it. They must be underappreciated, as they went for much less than other S&W 45's. If yours is as good as mine, you will enjoy it.

I wonder if there are any NIB 457's still out there... Sold mine a few years ago and probably shouldn't have.
It's all true, the 457 feeds all kinds of ammo, is light and carries nicely, and mine was accurate and a pleasure to spend range time with.

I saw a New Old Stock on GB tonight. Have had my 457S for 7 or 8 years. It will eat anything that I feed it. Add some hogue grips to cut back on recoil. I've bought other pistols over the years but my 457S is a keeper. Good Shooting

The trigger was smoother than I thought it would be. Just not in the budget for me right now.

It felt about the same to me, but then again I don't have Jerry Miculek's trigger finger sensitivity. How it felt to me may not be anywhere close to how it would feel for you. I liked the 908 9mm fine; in fact it's a tad easier to carry concealed due to slightly shorter barrel and it's a little bit lighter. I just decided to go to a 45ACP. At my size a few more ounces to carry is like a hummingbird landing on a moose.

The 457 reset is like the entire 45 series pistol line. About one milimeter.

"Don't Tell The Wife"??
Spouses have ESP! She knew that you had won the auction before you did.
Might seriously consider taking Wife out to a REALLY NICE restaurant for dinner.

Yeah you are right ...they seem to sense when you make a new purchase! Anyway, as a fololow up to others asking about the 457, I went to the range today to break in a new Sig Mosquito. Since I had not shot the 457 in a few weeks I decided to see how I could do at 50feet with a sillouette target. I am no marksman by any means but put 7 shots within a 6 inch diameter circle. Love the way this gun shoots and just may keep me from looking at a compact 1911 for awhile.

I love my 457 but I would like to change to more rounded grips to better fit my hand. Can't find them anywhere. Any suggestions?

Same grips as the 4516. You can get them from S&W. Not sure if the rounded grips were ever made for these guns.

I bet big dog would make you a set from factory "curved" for a 4506.

No that's normal. I have found all single stack "compact" .45s from S&W have this issue. Just slam it in there. It will be fine.

Thanks for the info. Really appreciate it. Thinking of using my 457 for deer. Never took one with a pistol.

I'm not going to harp on handgun hunting for deer, but I will tell you that it will be VERY challenging to bring the 457 into play for a reliable kill on a deer. I have killed them with handguns before, and each time they were CLOSE. Think inside 25 yards close.

It may not be legal. Check your state regulations. In Washington, the gun barrel must be a minimum of 4". The barrel on a 457 is 3.75".

I also think that a 4" barrel is the case in North Carolina. Do check your state regulations.
