Default Smith and Wesson Model 39-2

Hello,

I have a smith and wesson model 39-2. I recently cleaned it and have tried putting it back together, however, the slide thing is still sticking out and not working properly. I am trying to take it apart, but the slide stop will not come out, or even more up and down like it is supposed to.

Please help. See photo attached also

Mr. 89, just dont use a hammer on any part. Take the mag. out and just gently wiggle the slide so you can remove the slide stop. Dont get frustrated and use force. I have owned 39-2 for over 40 years. Just take your time. Mike 2796

You do not have your guide rod lined up correctly. I'm pretty sure there is a small indention that it must rest on before reassembly. I usually have to try it two or three times to get it just right.

I have the same problem with my guide rod on my 39-2. It can take a few tries and adjustments of the guide rod in the indention for it to line up correctly. To remove the slide, as the other post said, remove the mag first. Then pull the slide back so the slide stop lever is aligned with the cutout on the slide and wiggle it to work it out.

take the end of the rod and gently pull it out. It will re-seat itself in the bottom lug of the barrel. Give it a try. No hammers or force. Mike 2796

This may sound like dumb question. But, are you installing the rod backwards. My CS45 looks a lot like your picture when I accidentally reassemble it incorrectly. Funny how things have to go back in the exact way we found them.
