2nd or 3rd generation S&W
OK maybe a dumb question but how do you tell if a gun is 2nd or 3rd generation smith, I have a 908. Thanks

Generally the 2nd generation pistols have 3-digit model numbers whereas the 3rd generation have 4-digit model numbers. Your 908 is considered a 2nd generation. See the link below for more specific info.

The 908 would be considered a 3rd generation S&W. The general rule is the 3rd gens have 4 digit model numbers such as 5906 or 3913 and the 2nd gen guns are three digits such as 645. But the 908 is a budget model based on the 3913 so it has the features of the 3rd gen guns.

I stand corrected - the 908 is a 3rd generation. The link I included indicates it is a 2nd generation but I found another site that confirms what Arizona5906 stated.
