4516 lower, 4566 upper?
Dumb question, but can you put a 4556 complete slide assembly on a 4516 frame?
Sorry, the thread title should be 4556 upper.

Yes you can... I've trotted this pic out before, but here is a shot of my 1076 and 4536 (same frame size combo as 4566 & 4516 - just frame mounted decockers) when I was cleaning both pistol and couldn't resist doing the swap for a photo opportunity. Others here have comfirmed that same caliber frame & slide swaps are shootable. Someone here has a beautiful custom 645 with an extra 4516 slide fitted that really is the cat's pajamas.

I don't know if it will fit with a shrouded (compact) hammer and a DAO slide (I'll try later) but a normal 3rd gen TDA hammer with a spur will hang up on the extended DAO slide.
I don't know if it's a good idea combining operating systems or not, but I have swapped tops and bottoms of various 3rd gen guns, including different lengths, within the same operating system and it works fine.

hmm sounds like what Elmer Keith thought the ideal replacement was for the 1911 with that 645, 4 inch 45 version of the model 39'
small, powerful and easier to conceal than the 1911 without having to deal with that cocked and locked thing in 1955 when he wrote that.

I tried a 9mm DAO slide on a 9mm TDA frame with a compact hammer and it looks like it would work, though you basically end up with a TDA gun with no safety or decocker.
