S&W 457 magazine disconnect removal?
Just bought a S&W 457 and when I finally receive it (1mo 10 days... I hate California) I would like to remove the magazine disconnect. Is this at all possible and, if so, how do I go about doing it?

There seems to be a concerted effort to keep it a secret.
I have contemplated it myself. A quick study would suggest that it requires removal of the rear sight to get at the spring and disconnect plunger captured by the sight. Also might require some alteration of the disconnect lever mounted in the frame.
I haven't been motivated enough to do that level of disassembly of any of my pistols to figure out how to do it.
There is a strong incentive to do this mod on Browning HiPowers to get a better trigger function. I don't think you get any improved trigger function from doing this mod on a Smith. So, most people aren't motivated to experiment.
Really, do you foresee a situation where you will be in a life or death situation without the magazine, but equipped with ammo? I just have trouble visualizing that.
I don't care for magazine safeties either. But I see it as much more likely that I might save the day by deliberately "disabling" my weapon by removing the magazine as opposed to the idea of saving the day with one bullet after I lost my magazine.
Some nanny-type will be along shortly to lecture us on internet lawyer lore relating to some perceived notion that disabling the magazine safety on a gun is a sure way for a scurrilous prosecutor to railroad a righteous self-defense shoot into a first-degree murder prosecution.

I frigging love your verbiage. Seriously, it is refreshing.
I just hate mag disconnects is all. I think they are lame and they annoy me.

The rear sight comes out left to right. The plastic plunger and spring comes out of the hole. The sight goes back. Done.

I believe there are two plungers/springs under the rear sight, looking from back to front the one on the left is the mag disconnect. I don't remember what the other one does but do know it has to remain or the gun won't function.

The METAL one is the firing pin stop. Removing this will not prevent the weapon from functioning, but is not a good idea.
The PLASTIC one is the magazine disconnect. Haul it out of there and leave it out. I have with ~20 3rd generation S&W pistols.
