Default 669 vs 6904

Ok so my partner on the ambulance has a 6904 and I have a 669. Well he said that it was really hard to get his slide stop pin out to take his gun down. I found this weird because while mine positively engages, I can get mine out by just pushing on the Right side and pulling it out from the left. We had to use a handcuff key to push his out. Now when I got it out, I noticed his has small grooves running circumfrentially around the pin and mine is smooth. I did try my pin in his gun though and it was still super tight. It seems like the tension on our guide rod plungers is the same. I don't know.what to tell him. Any ideas?
