Default model 439, 5904 triggers

I copied and pasted the following (my first thread) from the New Members forum in order to garner some advice:

"Hello S&W enthusiasts in cyberspace,

I have tapped into your info. bank numerous times and thought it about time to join in, and say THANKYOU to all who have inadvertently provided me with great advice, insights and info.

I hope I am not breaking protocall or forum etiquette by launching right into a question; here it goes...

I am the owner of a used Model 439 and a 5904 with a weight trigger pull of 6lb. 5oz. SA/11lb. 13.1oz. DA and 7lb. 1oz. SA/12+lb. DA respectively. In the interest of not buying other pistols and my benefitting from these being from the same operatational lineage,

1) Do you think it worth the gunsmith cost investment to perform a "trigger job" on both?

2) Can you make a remmendation for a Sacto. area gunsmith familiar with performing such work on tehes models?

3) What should I expect to pay?

4) I have complete OEM-rate Wolffspring kits that I will install prior to any trigger work."

Thanks.

I plan on using the 439 for CCW and the 5904 for a home defense pistol

Welcome to the forum ron. I share your trigger pull problems with my Model 439 and my Model 4566, except my 439 has the worst trigger pull. I hope you can get some sage advice about how to cure your problems because I could certainly use it. I also have a lot of take-up in double action pull with the Model 439 before the trigger engages. I looked back at my initial post and the only reply I received was to take my guns to a gunsmith. Hope you have better luck.

I don't have any experience with trigger jobs on Smith autos, though I think you might be surprised how new, and maybe lighter springs can improve the trigger feel. I've "fixed" a couple guns with a new trigger plunger spring. That one seems to improve the feel of the take-up in DA mode, and is the first thing I'd try on a DAO gun.

Thanks for the (2) repsonses. I do have a complete set of Wolff springs for each gun but I don't think what I'm after can be accomplished with new springs alone. Maybe I'll post my thread in the "gunsmithing" forum and see what happens.

I sent my model 5904 to S&W for the $175 expedited action tune. I will post the results, etc. on this forum when I get it back in about a week from now.

If the $175 + $36 overnight shipping experiment is a success, my 439 will make the same trip.

Ron,
I will be watching for your results. I am about ready to trade off the 439 if I can't get the trigger problem resolved.

Hi Ron, i'm interested as well. Do you think they will measure the weight in SA and DA before returning it to you?
