Default .380 Bodyguard slide won't lock ( RESOLVED)

I went to clear the gun to show to a friend. Dropped the mag and pulled the slide back, but the round would not eject. After several cycles, I finally got the round out. Weapon is now cleared, but I could not get the slide back far enough to lock it in place. I cannot get the slide to go all the way back to the slide lock position. Any one have this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Don

That happened to me once. Couldn't get the slide all the way back to lock it open. After messing with it a while, a piece of metal fell out of the gun. It was the back piece of the firing pin. This has happened to a few BG380's. There is a thread and video all about it. Just a guess as to why your gun will not lock back. I hope that is not what is wrong with yours, but if it is, S&W will fix it up for you. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Patbelly. After a lot of internet searching, I found the answer on another forum. Seems that the small screw that holds the laser in place has a tendency to vibrate out. It was loose and sticking up enough to keep the slide from racking back all the way. I tightened it down and all is good. Again , thanks.

Yup, forgot about that one. The screw in my laser kept coming loose too, but never hindered the slide. Light kept going out. If the screw continues to loosen, you could use blue loctite to keep it snug, but S&W does not recommend that. They had me send in my laser and they sent me a new one. All is good, except I stripped the screw recently. Not gonna touch it until the batteries die. Then I'll probably have to send this laser in also. Oh well. Glad you resolved the issue.

I don't have those problems. I hung up my laser when I parked my space ship.

Thanks very much for that post. Same problem in mine. Just saw it today, and it kind of freaked me out - what did I do to my gun?!?!? That looks like what, at T3 Torx bit to fix that screw properly?

Thanks again,
John

....that was one of the problems that I incurred over my troubled past with the BG380. I finally dropped back and punted. I took it to my LGS and traded it on a sr 22 rifle to plink with in the back 40. I have an M&P9c that I love but my BG was always irritating to me.
I will replace the .380 with a subcompact 9 but now am leaning towards the Ruger, Kahr, Beretta or Sig over the Shield. Before my BG issues I would have never made that statement. There was a Shield at the store when I traded my BG but I would bring myself to buying it.

Thank goodness. There is too much demand for the Shield and really almost all M&P's. Those of us who are DYING to get a Shield appreciate you giving up on purchasing all new M&P's because of your BG380 issue.

Now if only the demand for 3913's would fall off......

Default Unable to lock slide to the rear on the BG

I am unable to lock the slide to the rear - after several attempts. Nothing appears to be loose. Is there a link to a video for troubleshooting problems such as this? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Will the slide reach the position where the lock will move up into the notch?

Same issue as mine. The stupid screw holding the laser housing keeps coming loose. Tighten it, fire 50 rounds. Fine. Second fifty rounds, jams half way.
Now the slide won't go all the way to lock as the laser screw is preventing it from sliding. Would it not be fun to have this problem during a life and death situation.... Hey. Mr. Bad guy, can you wait a few minutes till I get this damn thing working again or wait a few weeks till I get it back from SW.
JUNK!

Bought my BG last Monday. Too dang cold right now so haven't fire it yet. I've been checking out this forum and the internet to find out all I could about my new firearm.

I've already broke it down for a cleaning and after the discussion here will do it again and check that screw. However don't see any problem in future because after each session I will clean it again and check that screw.

Problem solved.

Default Sounds like a chainsaw.....

Sounds like a chainsaw I bought once. Supposedly a good brand but on using it the screws started backing out. I lost a few before I caught on to what was happening.
