I've been cutting down the Crimson Trace lasergrip LG359 for the 59xx series (which also fits some 40 cal's). I can fit the 39xx, 69xx, and CS9 model families, but I don't have a 3 gen 45 and can't tell you if it can be done on them.
The mod has to be hand fit to the gun and takes a bit of work, but if the LG359 will go around the 45 frame (and the grip angle is the same) I don't know why it couldn't be done.

I've ragged on these grips so much that I was almost embarrassed to say any more. <grin>
There are photos of the modified grips and kind of a running commentary while I developed the mod in this thread.
Crimson Trace Lasergrips for 69xx, 39xx & CS9
I have them on my CS9, 908 and 6906 and couldn't be happier with them.
My gut feel is that the single stack 45's should be doable, but I don't have a 45 to fit them to. Perhaps someone with both a 9mm and 45 would compare the frame sizes.

Thanks, I'm very pleased with them.
Between doing the mods and the holidays my range time has suffered a bit. I'm anxious to compare accuracy with and without the use of the laser. I would also like to explore some alternate shooting techniques/stances. With one exception I've noticed on a different forum, no one has really explored these areas online.

I have both a 908 and a 457. While I don't have the right precision measuring tools to give you exact dimensions, I can tell you the 457 frame is slightly larger than the 908. Measuring the factory Delrin grips, the 457 grip is wider by about an eighth (inside of the grip; the outside of the magwell) and deeper (front to back) at the base by three-sixteenths. Height is close enough to the same as makes no difference.
Don't know how much this helps, but the factory grip from the 908 will not fit onto the 457. You can get the grip from the 457 on the 908 but it's loose and sloppy. That's just with mine, and may not apply to every unit out there. But it probably does.

Thanks, BaldEagle. That information is invaluable. The double-stack 9's are about 1/4" wider so I think the CT 59xx models should fit in that dimension (smaller is OK, but it is tough to stretch them). And 3/16" front to back should be within the amount I have to work with.
Now I just have to convince SWMBO that I need a compact 45 to fit the laser grips to. (Yes, dear, I really didn't want another 3d gen S&W, but the guys online made me do it. <G>)

If there was a cheaper way of getting it to you than paying FedEx a fortune, I'd let you borrow my extra 457. I have two. My CT grips for a 4046 are way too big for it.

Has anyone had any luck with this problem?
My 457 was given to me by my father when I turned 21 and I really love this gun. It was his duty carry and I'd like use it for my ccw.
I just called CT trying to find if they had anything for my 457 and as you all know struck out.
If a CT grip can't be fitted to it are there any other good laser applications for this model? Perhaps a guide rod laser?

Honestly, for a CCW pistol you should consider a set of big dot sights, like the XS system. God forbid you have to use your pistol to defend yourself, you aren't going to be worried about where the laser is aimed. You want to see a big dot on target and go...Just my 2 cents...

Thanks! That is a good suggestion. Although I'm very comfortable and experienced with my 457, better sights certainly couldn't hurt, especially in a high stress situation.
I know that a laser isn't a replacement for your sights, but can be a helpful companion in certain situations.
Can you give me the full product name for the XS system you recommended so I can check it out?

Check out this thread:
We're way beyond Dremel now, Melted & Melonited 4516-1
Bill put some XS sights on his 4516. I am also working on a 457 and plan on using the same sights. They are just called XS Big Dot sights.

Mine is as it was from the gunshop. haven't done anything to it yet, but wouldn't mind making it better. Aside from it being sentimental as I said in my previous post, I just love this gun.
What rounds do you like the most for this model?

Here is a thread I started:
457 Makeover...BMCM inspired...(many pictures)
As for ammo, I have found that 3rd gen S&W pistols will eat any ammo. I use whatever is least expensive at the range and for carry use Winchester Ranger +P for carry.
