Default 3913 NL?

Had a Smith 3913 NL come in to the LGS where I work. I've never seen one before, are they "rare"?

I bought my wife a 3913LS a few years ago, be kinda cool to have a matched pair ;-)

Not "rare" (as in collectible), but somewhat uncommon. If it's a good price, I'd get it. You can share mags and other accessories with your wife.

That's exactly what I thought after my wife bought her Lady Smith recently.

My 3913NL should arrive on Tuesday.

Not (non?) Ladysmith. Same color and grips, no Ladysmith engraving.

NL stood for "New Look" when S&W produced it years ago.

I think that the 3913 NL is the best of the 3913s, and a lot of the cognoscenti seem to agree (it's where the Model 58 was in 1990). My brother has one and loves it. I have absolutely no need for one, but if I ever ran across one at a decent price, I'd buy it.

I always heard "Not Ladysmith", but unless you talk to the company historian or some exec from the time, you'll never be sure, will you?

True. I don't have their phone numbers handy, either ;-)

It is a decent little pistol, though. A keeper, no matter what the NL stands for....

Default I want one!

I would love to have one. BTW a Lady Smith sold for $599 on GB last week . They aren't cheap. If you find one for $500 or under I would jump on it... or PM me. I heard No Logo was the designation. It makes the most sense.... but that doesn't make it so: BTW they were only produced from '91-'94. Sometimes I just don't understand S&W marketing. If they brought that model out today and sold it they could not make enough of them. Not because they are rare... because they a probably the best single stack 9mm CCW weapon on the market of any manufacture! It makes the new M&P Shield look silly.

I recently bought a 3914LS. Anyone know the difference between a -13 and a -14?

And as someone else stated. I wouldn't be looking for a Shield. This is the nicest carry piece I have ever seen.

That's actually closer to an LS than a standard 3913; The 3913 has an ambi safety/decocker, and the frame has a different taper to it under the barrel. I'm color-blind, but the LS is also a little bit different in color, and came with Gray grips originally. Same as the black ones on the standard 3913. It would help to see the left side of that, but I know of what I speak.(I have 5, a few 3913's, a 3913LS, and a 3913TSW. All minor details by the way, the 3rd gens are all great. If I add in the 5906's (2), the 4013's (3), and the 4013TSW, I have 11 altogether. SO FAR......

Congrats on your purchase, you won't be dissapointed!
Good luck, Dave

Just for the heck of it, I Googled "What does the NL on a S&W 3913NL........... one of the answers was an IFMBD Wiki answer that had all of the different versions, as well as the correct answer to your original question, if you're so inclined.

I saw a 3914NL today, NIB, for $599. I think this model is rarer(?) than the 3913NL, correct? It looked like an excellent carry pistol.

I had a chance to examine a 3914LS and a 3913LS side by side. There are more differences then just the bluing of the 3914. The two pistol I saw had different machining on the slide and the barrel. The barrel's were not interchangeable. I don't know if the change was due to model differences or if there were longitudinal changes in production in the two pistols.

This is just a datum point...

Andrew

Of all of yours, which have the metal lowers? And do you notice a big difference in recoil and muzzle flip between the metal and non-metal frames?

Also, I don't see a 908. Are they really cheaper made inside than yours? Do you know?

Thanks - Rick

Local LGS had a very nice 3914 NL on their shelf for about 3 months. 90% condition. One light scratch on frame. Finally decided I wanted it. $395 before tax and DROS. It had a tag for 450. But they know me TOOO well. LOL.
Shoots very accurately. Bought some extra mags from CDNN. Put it as my primary on my carry license.
THEN I discovered what I had on this forum.
Gonna put my brand-new SIG 239 as my primary, now. Will retire the 3914.
Very accurate and extremely easy to shoot.
Now they have a 3913 at the shop for about 450, IIRC. But it's about an 80% pistol.
Nice guns.

This is a guess, but those look like the standard synthetic rubber grips that Hogue offers for the S&W 3900 series compact single stack series. I think their model number is 13010, usually many of them listed on the big auction site in the $20 range. The labels on the last pack I bought says "Recoil Absorbing Rubber Automatic Pistol Stocks Hogue" "S&W 3rd Gen. 3900 series Decocker on Slide". Hope that helps.

Sure wish they would come out with at least a couple of the Third Generation models again. May cost a lot more but would sure be worth it!

Default Master list of questions!

Is there an easy list of which models have metal lowers?
3913,3914,3913nl,3914nl,908 Ladysmiths, any others in this size, Ser.3?

Also, is the 908 really inferior parts inside? - Any defects there?

Many, many thanks.

I Had a 39-2 years ago when they first came out - Neither me nor the Ill. Stat Police could get them to run.

I really want one of these but am just learning the differences.

Any diff. in recoil/muzzle flip between steel & alloy?

I have a small track on the 3913s exclusive of Lady Smiths:

Smith & Wesson 3913 Pistol in 9x19. Blue Book of Gun Values (36th Edition) indicates between $395 in 95% condition and $550 in 100% condition for this gun. I have 89 recorded prices for this model gun from $225 to $700 over a period of 8 Yrs 6 Mos ending July 22, 2016. The average price as of that date was $492. No refurbs, no refinishes, regular sights. Adjusted to two magazines. All represented as 95% or better. No distinction for engineering revision, if any, no special editions, no distinctions for box, papers, tools. Current or last MSRP is $622.

The last 10 prices I have for this model from 11/8/2015 through 7/22/2016 range from $500 to $650 averaging $556. mbliss57 is right on the bux, in my opinion and they are still appreciating.

Metal "lowers"? You mean frames, right? All of them.
Inferior? No. Less expensive perhaps.
Recoil: depends on the gun, the caliber and the shooter. I don't find one 9mm or 38 Special much different from another, but in larger calibers I definitely do.

I understood some had alloy (lighter) frames and some had regular steel milled frames. I was wondering about recoil/flip between the 2 in the same (9 mm) cal.

Since you are in an answering mood can I hit you with one more?

Is a 6906 the same size as these 3913, 908, etc. series but with a slightly wider grip? Longer grip? Wide like my Glock 23 or just slightly? Too wide/long in your estimation? Whole frame and slide larger?

Thanks again. Rick

Is there an easy list of which models have metal lowers?
3913,3914,3913nl,3914nl,908 Ladysmiths, any others in this size, Ser.3?
All of these pistols you mention, including the 6906, have alloy frames.

Default Shoot Like a Girl ...

I have a 3913 NL and a 3914 LS both are excellent concealed carry weapons. I believe the NL version came about as some users didn't like having a "Lady Smith" inscribed on their personal defense weapon.

The "NL" was discontinued in 1994 whereas the "standard" 3913 continued into 1999. If rarity can be measured in prices commanded, a 100-percent (never even out of the box) at $550 3913NL is worth about $15-20 more than a standard version, this according to the latest Online Blue Book of Gun Values.

But the Ladysmith is rated up to 29% more than the NL. Go figger.
