Default Does a SW factory bead blast refinish diminish value?

I'm thinking of getting my "most carried" 4566TSW refinished by SW. [Beadblast]

It's been the most carried gun I own, and starting to show it. Minor nicks, scratches, etc.

Would having that done ruin, improve, or do nothing to the value? [FWIW, I do not expect an improved value, and would do it just to get her back to "good lookin.'" I just don't want to ruin it.]

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

Len

Since it's a fairly recent piece I wouldn't worry about it. Do what you like.

What Stu454 said. Unless you're planning on living another 100 years, I wouldn't worry about any potential loss in resale value.

Do you want it to look new again or not?

I had S&W re-bead blast a cylinder to a 642 that was scuffed up. When done, it looked great.

In the short run, if you intend to sell this week, re-bead blasting the finish on your slide would make your gun sell faster. You just might recoup the cost ($75-80?) in a higher asking price, e.g., a scratched up slide is less attractive and lowers the price.

If you intend to keep it, and are just getting it cleaned up to look better, then it is all about whether it is worth the money to you or not.

It won't have any long-term effect on the value of the pistol. It is not a collector's item that can have its value damaged by refinishing -- many an old Colt 1911 or Springfield has been ruined by someone trying to sand off the rust or getting it re-blued.

Anyway, it will probably get scratched up again before you sell it!

Blasting stainless doesn't seem any different than polishing them, or using Scotch pads on them.

If you're going to continue carrying it why have it refinished, it'll get dinged up again.

Honest carry-wear on a gun give it true character.

All the better if the wear is from your own personal use.

Why in the world would you want to erase your mark on such a personal item?

Len, if I were buying the gun from you. I would want to pay less if it's showing wear. If you intend to keep, and continue to carry this for awhile I would leave it alone. When you get serious about selling or trading then have it refinished. JMO.
