Default 4506-1 reliable? Nah.

Just kidding! Took my CCW course this weekend and there is a mandatory live fire component. It was supposed to mid 40's today and partly cloudy. Instead it was mid 20's and windy. Couldn't bring my piece into the classroom so it sat in the truck all morning and was the same temp as the great outdoors I'm sure. I brought some old SWC I had as my ammo and was a little worried the conditions coupled with the ammo might cause me some problems and I dang sure didn't want to spend any more time on the firing line with the instructor trying to clear a jam out of my pistol. (They told us before hand that if we had a malfunction we weren't allowed to clear it ourselves). Now for the good part. My 4506-1 ran like a champ! Not one single bobble and made me look good to boot. These big old .45's are great.

Congrats on your CCW Course. I teach one in NE Ohio and love to see students do well.

The 4506 is a fantastic weapon! I carried a 4586 on duty for many years and found it crazy-reliable. The only problem I ever had was an extended shooting session in sub freezing conditions (10 degrees F) when the oil in the gun became so cold it gummed up the slide-to-frame fit. I would not blame the gun on that. That was the day I learned a lesson about using cheap oil. The RO gave me some Tetra and solved the problem immediately. I have used either FP10 or Tetra ever since and had no issues.

Awesome reliability in a 4506-1. I like a lot of 45's but the 4506-1 is my 1st choice in home defense because of its reliability. Mine has never failed to work.

I've owned a whole lot of 1911s over the years-Colt, Kimber, SA and a Wilson. The Wilson is the only one to give my 4506 a run for the money with regards to reliability-and as for accuracy, well that's neck and neck too.

FWIW, I greatly prefer the 4506. It's the best handgun, regardless of caliber, I've ever owned.

Good to hear yours didn't let you down. I'd expect nothing less.

Best,

Heekma

That is one gun on my wish list.
I have several different 10mm and 9mm and they shoot and preform always.

where do you teach CCW in NE Ohio? I took mine through Great Lakes Outdoor Supply in Middlefield. It was very good. I currently have several friends looking to take theirs, including a couple that live next door to me. Will be glad to pass along your info if you'd like.
