Default Red Dot Sight for Model 745

Getting the urge to mount a red dot optic on my 745. Its the adjustable sight model:

The Burris Fastfire III has caught my attention. There are a number of low mount options with this one.
While the 745 is (obviously) not listed they do call out a 1911 Novak base.
So - Is there any chance that the 745 has a Novak dovetail cut?

And, if so has anyone tried the Fastfire or another sight on a 745? Could it stand up to riding the slide on a .45?

thanks.

No they are not the Novak cut but it can easily be made into one. it's just a matter of having the area behind the dovetail milled down slightly. I know several people who have the small dot sights on 45 guns, doesn't seem to be much of a concern with them. The slower slide velocity of the 45 doesn't abuse them that much.

Try contacting these folks and see if they can make you a Fastfire mount for you existing dovetail.

BME-Mounts

Good Luck...

Used a BME mount on my 945 with a Doctor's red dot. works well once I got it adjusted. Use thread locker on the mounting screws. Remember you have to get the sight back off to change the battery.

You can get a Weigand mount, drill and tap the frame. Ultradot sight's are a lot easier to adjust and change batteries.

Any updates on this question? I have a Burris FastFire III on a Ruger MKIII and I have a 945-1 PC incoming. I would like to mount a FastFire on it rather than a Doctor if possible.

Thanks!

It was either Cheaper Than Dirt or SWFT. Planet Optics may be another source.

I love the red-dot on my 945.....
I recommend the Ultra-Dot, since the price is around $200 and will hold up to anything. MANY serious target shooters use the UltraDot. The Burris and others replace the rear sight, and they are small. The J-Point is an exceptional rear sight replacement, and the shooter can co-witness the red dot with the front sight for extreme accuracy.
