Once you're at the point of putting the upper on the bottom you just slide the upper till it hits the three fingers sticking up. Just push the fingers down and and continue slide the upper til you are able to slide the breakdown pin in.

In addition to the levers, which must be pushed down into the frame, make sure the hammer is not cocked when you put the slide on the frame.

Smith & Wesson 6906 field stipping - YouTube This guy has a lot of excellent videos on tearing down 3rd gens. Hid 3 part dis and re assembly of the 4506 is invaluable!
rangerscott please tell me what lube was used to cause all that build up...so I can stay far far away from it!

You'd have to find out what police force it was with. LOL It was really gunky at the front of the trigger where that tiny spring assembly is. Of course I did put some remington lube and shot 100rnds of Monarch through it before I decided to clean it.
