4566 Price Check
I came across a 4566 at a LGS. It looks good, tight action, good trigger although it could stand a detailed cleaning. It has one magazine, no box and fixed sights which might be standard on this model. Hammer is stainless I think, not black like I have seen on others. The frame is roll stamped with the model and serial number, not etched in black on what I guess are newer models.
I was thinking a 645 or a 4506 was in my future, but this model might do me well too.
It was tagged at $525 but was told they would go $500 otd. Too much or is that a fair price?
Thanks.

500 OTD is a decent price.
The 4566 in my holster right now with 3 mags and case could have easily sold for $600 if the FFL I bought it from knew what it was worth.I won't post what I paid here, as it was a rare case of the dealer not knowing what he had.
No matter how much you pay your dollar buys one heckuva tough gun. Unlike a polymer gun which will be replaced by something with a better trigger or grip in 6 months that S&W will last you decades, and they're out of production.
The 4566 in my possession probably will outlast me, which should tell you something about how well built these pistols are.

Just been looking around and that's probably in the ballpark these days.
I got lucky and scored a LEO trade-in a year or 2 ago, but it looks like most of the great deals on these are in the past.
Will outlast me for sure:

Hello,
At $500 OTD, jump on it. You may find it $50 cheaper somewhere else-take your chances-or you may find it $50-$100 higher elsewhere.
If the gun is in good shape I'd put down my money and go home happy. The days of bargains on these guns are over. When you read about a steal on one it's the exception, not the rule.
Best,
Heekma

I don't know about that. I got my 4566 with three mags and factory case +ammo and tax for $425. Then again I live in the sticks. One's Mileage May Vary.

$500 OTD is a fair price IMHO. I traded a Sig 220 LE trade in straight up for a 4506 and thought I did OK. The 4506 was in better shape. I got a 4566TSW in the box w/2 mags for $495 after some haggling. It was filthy and needed new springs but still thought I did well.

I think the amount of LE trades really is a wild card on the value of 3rd gens (most all models)
If you bought yours new you are affected by the 2000 the NYPD just turned it
If there was piles of Pythons that are LE trades I am sure the market would be quite different
Just a thought

I really wanted a 645 or a 4506 and ended up buying one off of Gunbroker today.
This 4506 comes in the original box, has papers and looks to be pretty nice.
I spoke to the dealer, he says it is in good condition, and that it only had one magazine when he got it. Although he has a few spares he thinks in his shop and he is going to put one in the box for me gratis.
I may have paid a high price for it but all my other Smith's are boxed and I kind of like having the boxes and paperwork.
Anyway, I'd like to hear what you guys think about my new to me pistol.
This pistol looks like the big brother to my 659, trigger and all.
Here is the auction page.

oldwolf that is a nice pistola there! I am with you on the whole box and paperwork thing,it just kinda makes you feel in some sorta way that the original owner might have taken a little better care of it-not always but it helps.I scarfed up a 4566 of gunbroker for $345-no box or papers because it was a cop trade. It needs a new trigger play spring, might replace the sear release lever while I'm in there and a bath but that's about it.Doesn't have original grips but Hogues so all in all seeing how it keeps my 4516-1 company,it was all worth it Let me know how that 4506 does!

Better get 'em while you can. There's too many of us still lookin for good ones. I picked up a 4566, box, papers, and two extra mags some time ago from a forum member and will probably will it to my son.

4566
I bought a police trade in from Gunbroker for $345 plus $25 shipping. I think under $450 would be a good price.

I picked up a 4566TSW in Eau Claire WI a year ago. They had 2, I bought the better of the 2. Both had bos, 3 mags, etc. $450 ea. Should have bought them both at that price. I knew it was a choice deal. I am VERY happy with my purchase,
