Who has one. Any problems? I got for my girls (wife, 17 & 11 yr olds) to shoot before they move to the 40. Plus ammo matches my 22 rifle (Remington 582 from 1981).

I have the 22A Talo and a Ruger 22/45. The 22A has a long trigger pull and nice comfortable grips. The 22/45 has a nice crisp trigger and the grips are so-so. Like them both equally well but enjoy shooting the 22A just a wee more.

I also have a 22A as a backup gun for my S&W M46 for the range. I have well over 6000 rounds thru it and decided to sell off my Berretta Neo's and keep it which I did as I did not need 3 of them in the 22 cal. The 22A is just a better gun for the money period in all areas. I also shoot 9mm and a 45 as well. My next one will be a Smith 627 from their Pro shop in 357 cal. Gonna take some saving for it but will be worth the effort I am sure.

I have a 22s which I purchased in 1990, same as the 22a except it weighs 41 oz.

Still use it to this day, for the money it shoots rather well.

I think it was a wise purchase.

SWMBO loves hers,, said it easy to shoot and maintain.
ammo is same as her 15/22 so it is easy on the wallet and does not have to have so many boxes at the range.

I have two, a 22a and a Talo mod. Both are accurate and super simple to disassemble and clean. Just finished a doing a trigger job on the Talo (nice). Have an Ultradot LT sight on it and it will shoot a 1" group at 50 ft. from fixed rest, using cci sv ammo. Great guns for the money.

Ok Ok- Great to shoot when it shoots - here are the challenges out of the box:

1. Fire shot, shell ejects, bullet doesn't chamber

2. Fire shot, shell ejects, next bullet ejects too

3. Fire shot, shell doesn't eject

4. Fire shot, shell ejects, bullet half chambers because next bullet pushing against and jams

I think this was all the combinations of failures.

Thoughts after the 1st 100 rounds?

I've had my 22A since 2003. First thing I found out was that it really works well if clean and lubed. If not it will have problems in FTF and FTE.

It is a great little .22

When it works, its nice, pretty accurate, decent trigger, and well balanced; however, mine has displayed a repetitive failure mode, for which it has been back to the factory, and for which it will be returning again, soon. Fires first round, ejects shell, does not chamber the next round, and the slide will not open more than about 1/4". Magazine in pr out, it takes 15 minutes of tugging on the slide to open it. Repeat. Extremely frustrating. Returned for warranty repair, gone 5 or 6 weeks, guess what? First shot after repair, same thing, only worse. Finally tugged slide open again, managed to fire several magazines after that. It will, undoubtedly, repeat the failure mode, and will be shipped back again. Don't get me wrong, I like the gun, but I really want it cured of this bad habit. Fortunately, I have several K-22s, Ruger MK-1 and 2s, a Woodsman and several other 22 pistols to shoot, somewhat reducing the irritation on range trips. I don't carry it woods walking, as taking two 22 pistols on an informal rabbit hunt is silly.

I really like my 22a bull model. It is used for plinking and close quarter combat with tree rats. The tree rats do not like it at all. It also works very nice when I go rabbit hunting and one is sitting still and he thinks he is invisible. CCI standardvelocity work great for general use. I am in the process of testing a 1.5x20 scope that I bought. Still undecided if that is what I really want.

I have a 22a Talo Delux what a gun, this thing is a tack driver!, with that said a few things that I have learned to make this gun run well. when ever I buy a new handgun I polish the feed ramp, to remove the factory burrs.Next I did alot of reading on ammo. what I found out is that most folks who shoot 40gr rn bullits have the least amount of trouble. I choose Federal Automatch you can buy it at Walmart in bulk 325 round boxes. I have put over 2000 rounds downrange with only a few ftf and a few duds, but thats 22 rimfire ammo. Also keep the gun lubed to keep it running well. I shoot my 22a out of the case and after about 250 rounds it started to stove pipe my buddy at the range said lube it and try again. I shot another 500 rounds with out any trouble, guess it was a little dry out of the case. so buy one use the right ammo, keep it lubed and have a blast

If you are having problems with that gun then take it back to the store where you bought it to see if they wish to replace it. If not then call S&W and they will give you instructions on how to ship it back to them.

I have a Model 22 S-1 with 5" and 7" standard barrels. Quite accurate, very reliable. Recently took the gun apart down to the frame and polished all moving parts plus repolished the feed ramp. Didn't touch the sear/hammer hook angles because it's way beyond my limited skills. Trigger breaks cleanly at 3 lbs. 6 ounces with resonable pretravel and almost no felt creep.

These guns are an excellent value. Mine eats all kinds of ammo but I was told initially to stay away from hollowpoints, so I have. CCI SV are my/its favorites.

I had one and traded it.Regretted the loss and just recently purchased another one..glad to have it back

Finally made it to the range. Shot 100 rounds.

Had problem with 1 round not ejecting. Seems the next round is being push up to hard and binding the slide. Will have to inspect the springs in the magazines.

Any other thoughts?

Mine is a couple weeks old. I have shot a couple hundred rounds. Mostly CCI bulk lead RH, a hand full of Federal bulk CP hollow point, and about 20 Bulk Remington CP HP. I read that the HP ammo might be a problem with failure to feed, something about the dimple in the magazine that is related to the magazine release button. I found no issue with my small sample. I have experienced a number of FTF with CCI. I am investigating possible causes. As Bolewine mentions "...a few ftf and a few duds, but thats 22 rimfire ammo." as is my experience.

I'm no gunsmith so I may not be describing it properly. Look at the surfaces where the bolt and chamber meet. On my 22A these surfaces seemed painted. In cleaning my gun, I cleaned the surfaces to bare metal. I notices the difference between my 22A and my MP-15\22*. I noticed the spring loaded "extractor" (what ever the hook that grabs the rim for extraction is called) seem fouled and I gave it a once over twice with a brush. Could the "extractor" be dirty? With a snap cap test how how good of a grip the "extractor" can make. Do a half hearted chambering of a snap cap and then see if the snap cap gets hooked.

My problem with FTF, I believe is in the firing pin and it's ability to operate smoothly.

* The early MP-15\22 had issues with FTE and FTL. I became familiar with the trails and tribulations of 22 rimfire guns as I wanted the MP-15\22.

Was at the NRA range today and talked with range guy about the FTL. It appears the slide is not going back far enough to cleanly eject the spent shell and pick up the next round. He suggested, based on the .22 he had, that:

1) It may take 300 or more rounds to break-in the recoil spring. At 340 rounds, still having challenges.

2) Try high velocity rounds to overpower the recoil spring. Tried the high velocity rounds I had with same result of FTL.

Has anyone else had issues with the recoil spring being too strong?

Did it take time to break-in?

Did you replace it?

Does S&W have lower strength springs?

Good news, the Sigma .40 cal still rock'n strong!

Call S&W Customer Service and ask that it be sent back to them on their dime! Detail your problems and tell them that you have tried multible types of ammo (give the names). Did you test your extractor with a snap-cap or empty shell casing?

I assume that your problems occur (1) with more than one mag, (2) the gun is clean and well lubed each time you go to the range, and (3) your sample rounds have included many solid point 40 grain HV. Sigmas and other polymer framed guns usually don't require much lube ... your 22 A is metal on metal ... lube it well!!! I use Rig +p slide grease on my semi-autos becuase Rem oil and others like it just drip off of the gun. IMHO, you recoil spring is not too strong. Don't start streching or cutting any springs. Lube it, shoot it, send it back if it doen't work.
