This weekend I just picked up a great condition Mod 3904. This will be my first 3rd gen 39 series. I have some 10mm and 40 cal 3rd gens. I've also owned a 59 series in the past. I collect the 1st gen 39s, but came upon this one in one of my searches. The price was right (around $350 before the FFL fee) and its in good enough condition, other than the scratch in the forward left side frame.
Anyway I just thought I'd share. Its almost time for a new S&W family picture.
Very nice! Congrats! The 3904/3906 is on my list of "eventual purchases". A list which never seems to get any shorter even with me buying guns regularly.
My daily carry is a 4014. I love the blackened models. I think you will really enjoy this one.

Did you get that one on GunBroker? It looks like one I was eyeing. Unfortunately I just bought a few other guns in the last few months and my gun buying stash was low.

It probably was the same auction on GB that you are thinking of. That mark on the frame is fairly distinctive. Surprisingly it actually looks like someone cleaned it before selling it, not that it matters because I'm going to clean it tonight anyway.
I have the 3906 and the 3904. I like both of them. I carry the 3904 as my ccw or have it on the night table. Both of mine have the square trigger guard.
