Guys, the OP posted almost 5 1/2 years ago, got a model 640 Pro in late 2014 (to replace his BG .380?) and hasn't been here in 5 months. Hopefully he'll catch up with your comments upon his return

I have Walthers, too expensive for pocket carry around the farm. I like my Ruger Custom LCP .380. When I leave I always carry a .45.

I know that,I was talking about the ones like the G42 and other striker fired pistols he was asking about for a replacement.I also don't like a cocked and lock for pocket carry. I have a Sig 238 that I don't like as a pocket carry.I for one have a BG.380 with over 1500 round thru her that I carry everyday without any problemsIt took me ten years to replace my old J-frame.

DOH! Sorry Garddogg56, I just saw your post above, my bad. Maybe someone else will want to check out the Wiki anyway though~

Just a quick note partner, this is from Wikipedia about the BG 380, "Unlike the rest of the M&P pistols, the M&P Bodyguard is not striker fired. It is a traditional double action only hammer fired pistol."

Here's the link: Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380 - Wikipedia

Safe shooting, ya'll~

Not a problem Lawyer.but my point is for me I really only trust a looooong DAO in my pocket even with a pocket holster, and trust me I want to trust my P238 in the pocket cause with it I'm lights out up to 15ydsthe same goes with a Shield9mm with a safety.

The OP is long gone, but for anyone else reading this, I just got done fixing my bodyguard. It had an issue with light strikes that developed after months of shooting the thing. I would avoid this gun if I had it to do all over again.

I purchased the gun to replace my Kel-tec P3at. Well, I own 3 Kel-tecs (p32, p3at, p11) and all have been flawless after the first 50 rounds. I sent the p32 in after the first time I shot it because I didn't know about the break in period, and this was about 15 years ago before everyone had access to the Internet; however, if you send a gun back to Kel-tec they'll actually fix it, and send it back to you in this lifetime unlike a lot of other companies. Make no mistake that Kel-tecs are garbage, but they go bang when you pull the trigger. They're sorta like a Bic lighter in that they're nothing you're going to leave your kids, but functionally they're a great product.

While I have never owned one, I have heard that the original Ruger LCP is a very reliable gun as well. The LCP 2 is said to be having issues with feeding, so you might want to wait on that one until all the bugs are worked out.

I own a Glock 42. It's reliable and shoots better than any of these guns, but it's a little too big for pocket carry (for me), and the trigger is too good for me to feel comfortable carrying it in a pocket even with a pocket holster. I could see someone shooting themselves in the foot with that thing while drawing it from a pocket under stress.

I owned a Seecamp 32acp years ago that was crafted like a fine watch and carried easier than any gun I've ever owned outside of an NAA mini revolver. That's about all it had going for it though. It was inaccurate (even for a mouse gun), and it would only shoot certain types of HP ammo. The only ammo I trust in 32acp to get the job done out of a barrel that short is hot European FMJ. I wouldn't trust anemic Winchester silver tips in 32acp to consistently expand out of a barrel twice that long. Lucky for me, I traded that gun for a Remington 1911 that was even more worthless lol You had to keep the thing as clean as a hospital floor and lube it like a model-T just to make it through half a box of ammo without it having issues. What a pile of junk that gun was. Never again Remington!

Default SIG P232, nice gun ...

... just found one at Gunbroker, never fired for ... get this ... $499.00 USD. Am I crazy or is that not a darned good price for that gun?

Here's the link should anyone want to check it out. Oh, no pictures on this listing..

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/672000798

Oh, lest anyone wonder, I have nothing to do with this gun. I just saw your picture and wanted to check the gun out price wise. Don't get me wrong, as long as I am carrying a .380, it's going to stay my Bodyguard 380, LOL.

ENJOY!

I would consider the Kahr k9 you mentioned if in good shape..
I have a k9 03elite and smooth as butter..
NYPD authorized the Kahr k9 for off duty carry for years..
$350 would be about right

This "." is a period.If not a Bodyguard 380 then What?
I've carried a Kahr of one model or another for almost two decades without issues. As others have mentioned, any Airweight, Sig 232/290/238/938, or Bersa are great options based on personal experience or those that I trust.

Actually glad this thread outlived the OP!
I recently bought a BG 380 and Shield 45 with the recent rebates.
I have no illusions about the 380 being an ultimate defense round.
Through my decades, I have carried J, K, and N frames in various loadings.
I have also carried Colt, S&W, and Kahr Autos in various loadings.
I also have a NAA Sidewinder with Federal V-Shok ammo that travels in my pocket on many outings.

There was a phase back in the 70's and 80's when any pocket auto under a 9mm was considered too anemic for defensive carry.
I don't know what changed, but pocket 380's are market leaders these days.

I do know my BG 380 loaded with Hornady Critical Defense is less noticeable in my pocket than my Kahr CM9 loaded with Win Silvertips.

For a real eye opener, take a look at the Youtube videos of ballistic gelatin tests, with various entry barriers.

Two impressive rounds are the Hornady Critical Defense 90gr. (up to 13" penetration), and the Underwood 90gr.(up to 18" penetration) loads.

I also have a 380 BG. Not too crazy about it. I bought a Kahr CM40. About a half inch longer and heavier, but it's a 40 and not a 380. The CM9 is the same length as the 40 but thinner and lighter. Both cost a lot less than my BG. The CM 9 was going for about $320 at Buds Guns. Great pocket carry.

If the CM9 was cheaper than the BG, how much was the BG? Mine was only $239.99.... after the rebate comes in, $189.99

My BG was $265 at Grab-A-Gun, less the $50 rebate. Not counting $7.99 shipping and FFL transfer.
The Kahr CW380 without rebate would have been more from the same source.
My CM9 is very noticeably bulkier and heavier than my BG for pocket carry. And my CM9 rides too high in my jeans pocket, and is visible to a nearby observer. My BG allows the pocket to close over its butt. Both carried in fabric pocket holsters.
I can pocket carry my 45 Shield in my overalls pocket with a Nemesis.

My physique has "matured" into suspenders, rather than belt, so my old OWB and IWB carry methods aren't working for me now.

Anyone have 1st hand experience with the Remington RM380? Internet is full of good reports on them but I haven't seen one in person. Interested in it, the Kahr P380 or LCP (not lcp2) for pocket carry.

Edit. Found info in another thread.

I agree except it's a 637 for me.. If I don't carry it, I carry my Colt pocket lite in .380....which is the nicest carry gun I own. No way will I carry my 1911 as a concealed carry weapon. I also fired a J frame for my permit.

I'm quite fond of my S&W made stainless PPK. The only thing about it that I don't really care for is the Euro-style magazine release.

Here's my humble recommendation and my choice. Many others likely will not agree.

Sig Sauer P238 SAS.

Thanks for looking at my little Sig. It's a joy to carry and shoot.

God bless,
Birdgun

Mine runs great and is easy to carry. Maybe not as easy as my Seecamp 32, but still easy. It shoots great at self defense distances.

Since this thread has been revived,I carried a Kelly-tech 380 in my right front pocket for maybe 6-7 years, always shot great when I randomly pulled it out. Early this year I upgraded to LCP Custom , the real big sights turned it into a 25 yard gun. So as of now my favorite pocket gun is a LCP Custom. Favorite CCW gun is my 3913. My favorite full size handgun is tied between my CHP 4006 and my M&P2.0 5" 9mm. That is all!

My RM380 has been excellent. Over 500 rounds of all types of ammo, including jhp, with no failures of any type. Actually kind of fun to shoot for such a small gun. Alternate pocket carrying it with 642. Never see any used for sale in LGSs here, which is a good sign. Definitely recommend it.
