Default Grey Barrel?

My 539 and a Model 39 barrel-slide-recoil spring combo I picked up a few years ago have barrels that appear to be finished in some sort of light blue-grey colored material. The slide combo isn't serial numbered of course, but it's a 39, and a rather late one with a straight contour to the top of the slide stop notch. Any idea what that color finish consists of?
