Those results are no where normal for that gun. A few questions, how much have you shot semi's? What kind of shape is it in? Where did you get it from? S&W will work on it.

Did you replace the Recoil Spring and the Mag springs before you went to the range? Did you install them correctly (mostly the mag springs)?
Are the followers in good shape?
Where you using reloads? Was the gun cleaned an lubed? Filthy and dry?
Did you have another experienced shooter try to replicate your issues?

I've read a lot of reviews on the 5906 here, but I have never heard of one in that bad a shape.
Mine works like a fine watch.

Check with Brownells for recoil and mag springs. The trigger grinding sound may mean something is jammed, dirty, broken or all of the above. Regarding the poor shot groups, check the muzzle of the barrel to see if it has been damaged.

I can't remember since it's been awhile, but I think it's $95 to have the Performance Center check the gun out and change all the springs, since you're not a gun smith, it might be worth it. The trigger should not be gritty at all. Send the mags with it and ask them to check the dimensions, springs, followers etc. They'll do that as part of the service. Parts an and labor will be extra if anything is broken on the gun, mags etc.

Spewing all over the place at that distance is either bad ammo or a badly fouled barrel.
The gritty trigger is GRIT in the trigger.
You need to strip that sucker good and give it a massive Break-Free enema.
Blow out what excess you can with compressed air.
A lot of the grit will wash out with the Break-Free and air blast.
Repeat enema until all grit is flushed out.
If the gun is cycling, its not the springs that are the problem here.

I say fire it from a rest and slow fire it really paying attention to your sight picture. and see how it does then.

Your 5906 is a 3rd Generation gun and as such has a lifetime warranty. Call S&W for a UPS call tag and let them take very good care of you. Ask them to make sure that it meets or exceeds S&W standards for safety and function.
You will not regret doing so instead of trying to figure it out over the internet.
