Default what .22LR ammo

What ammo should I use in a 422 S&W. Is the remmington 525 round count in a box OK ? The CCI mini mags are a little expensive for target shooting. I know I should not use cheap dirty ammo.

Ken,

All .22lr is going to be dirty so don't let that factor into your decision too much.

If shooting for economy, I highly recommend the Federal bulk 550 round brick available at Walmart for under $20.

I would avoid remington like the plague. I have gon through about 1500 rounds of it and am down to my last 500. I was foolish to buy 4 boxes a couple years ago in the great ammo depression.

It is now my "company ammo" and I'm more than happy to share it. It gave me fits with feeding, primer ignition, and cycling in all sorts of semi-autos.

If you have a Dick's near you, they carry CCI standard velocity for about $25/500 which I think is a tremendous bargain.

If you cannot get the CCI bricks, I think you will be more than happy with the Federal (maroon box) stuff. I usually get one or two duds per thousand - WELL within the margin for plinking.

Have fun!

A.

Not sure if the sale is still going on but I just bought 10,000 rounds of milsurp .22lr (no, seriously military surplus .22lr) from the ODCMP. It was $65 plus shipping for 5,000 rounds through a club or LE agency, $90 plus shipping for 5,000 rounds to any American citizen. And that is cheap ammo.

But I have also had very good luck with Federal Champion bulk ammo.

Why not????? Seriously, if they work, why not?????? I use the cheapest stuff I can buy for plinking out of my .22's For serious target work out of my 77/22 (ie tree rats) it likes Remington sub sonic which is what I shoot. The handguns get the cheap stuff.

I used CCI Mini-Mags in my 2206, but recently ran a box through of Winchester Speed RN and it worked well, have a new box of Winchester Power Points to try on my next outing. Will probably try Federal Automatch from Wally-World with my next box. Worst ammo I have tried so far is Winchester X-perts in bulk pack, they had very loose lead on them, and it would jam frequently feeding.

I'm a big fan of the CCI Mini Mags. I've had issues with Remington and just abandonded 400 rounds at the range to get it out of my safe. Wasn't worth keeping even for "Company" ammo...

What Avery11 said works for me too.

Seems all my 22s hate Remington ammo. Dirty, leading ...... horrible.

But .... Federal bulk pack and CCI work great. YMMV.

Oh my gosh, anyone want to buy a $3k Anschutz BR rifle...lol... (just kidding)
I checked in on this thread and read about the price increases and just for kicks checked on the Tenex 22 ammo we used to shoot that we thought was too high then @ +/-$9.50 per box, that darn stuff is now +/-$19 per box...wow... Myself and a couple of rimfire shooting buddies used to go to Nashville and buy $200-$300 worth of different lot numbers and test for the best lot, then go buy a few bricks or what we could afford, now I would not even want to compete at the price of the match 22 ammo, centerfire would be much cheaper...lol...
I know that's not what y'all are talking about, I'm just sayin...
Have a good one...XPman...

I have tried Federal Auto Match and Winchester M-22 in my talo 22a. Both group well but the M-22 has many duds in a 1000 round pack wich is the only way to buy it. I will be sticking to the auto match it's a little more money but can almost always find it at wally world. I have not had any feeding issues with either. just fail to fire!

I use Federal Auto Match in my 422, but it runs fine with the 550 round bulk pack stuff.
