I need to move my rear sight in the dovetail. This is on a 5.5" barrel from the late 70's early 80's vintage (pre Kreg version).

I see one set screw. Is there anything else holding the sight in place? I loosened the screw and attempted to move the sight with a few light raps with a soft tool. No movement. Did not want to go any further without confirming how this was affixed without getting more information.

I thought they all had adjustable sights? Mine is a little newer than yours.

Yes, these are adjustable, but I need a more right windage adjustment.

I've had my barrel relined and the POI has shifted quite a bit. I've got accuracy, but need more adjustment to get perfection.

Mine is newer than yours and it doesn't have anything holding it in the dovetail. I'm guessing yours is the same.

The sight has been in place for 30+ years. It's probably just tight. Try a few drops of Kroil or other penitrating oil, let it sit a bit, and then whack it using a nylon punch.

Soak as suggested, loosen lock screw (it is in a hole in the bbl so really loosen), drift left to right. hard to believe you don't have enough adjustment - retry after soaking going back and forth several times.

Thanks for the reply's guys. If the set screw goes into the barrel I am not going to achieve my objective and have the sight secured with the same integrity.

I'll go ahead and spill what I'm experiencing with the sight adjustment. Just had a barrel relined and got out to shoot it for the first time. The sights were set a little left of center. The first shots indicated a big correction to the right. I've adjusted all the way right an still need a little more.

I'm a little concerned that something went wrong in the process but have not done enough testing to really understand what is going on. I do know something is different.

My first thought is that the barrel has a new axial orientation, which is concerning. This could mean the recess in on the bold face is not centered on the case head, which could be a problem. The gun functions fine.

Could a bum crown kick all shots the same direction with relatively good accuracy?

I really need to shoot this more to confirm all this. I don't think it was that windy on Sunday.

Assuming yours is like mine --- it's only that teensy-tiny set screw (and friction) holding the rear sight.
