Default Hang on to your 1006's!

Been browsing GunBroker for the last few weeks and haven't seen a single 1006 for sale. Last year you would see several of them for sale at any one time. Pricey but available. So I say hang on to those beauties!

regards

I just passed on a nice one for 750.00 with one mag. Several on Armslist the past month or so. Going to a huge gun show tomorrow. Anxious to see how many are there.

Just picked up my first 1006 in late january. Wanted one in 90's but too poor back then. Massachusetts is insane with their gun laws so haven't seen many. I didn't see a singel S&W 10mm at gun show in Springfield last week and S&W is just down the street. Thought $695 with original box and three mags was a great deal. Biggest issue is finding ammo here!

Have had my S&W1006 since march of 1990 and still hanging on to all my 10xx series pistols! The 10mm is addictive and rightly so, ballisticly one of the best semiauto performance cartridges!

I made the mistake of letting loose of the one my wife bought for me Christmas '90. I recently replaced it with one that a friend had in his safe for a few decades. I know both owners and it's in great shape. I will be holding onto it.

went to two shows today. Found a NIB 4006 and a real nice 669 but passed on both. Not many 3rd gen smiths available at either show.

I just got back from a diving trip down on the Florida keys where I found a 1006 with adjustable sights and original grips in excellent condition. I talked the shop owner down to $625 from $670 and had them ship it up to my local shop. I get to pick it up either tomorrow or Tuesday! Only thing I'm having trouble with is finding some magazines for it, came with just one. Can't wait to take it to the range!

Not planning on letting go of mine anytime soon, the value of these fine pieces is not going to do anything but increase in the future. Got mine from an estate sale a couple of years ago for $525 and it came with 6 magazines. Also bought up all of the 10mm ammo they had for right at 25 cents a round.
I have quite a few pistols, but the 1006 is definitely my ATF!
If I were to come across another one for $600 or less, I would jump on it!

I have found one of these guns with an extra mag for $600. Condition looks to be good to excellent. Good buy or should I pass?

So my old duty 1076 that I parted with $250 for when they switched to 4566's is really worth that? I think the armorer gave me about 12 mags for it.

I picked up a mint 98% 1006 with approximately 50 rounds use with two mags for 700.00 In transit. Looking forward to working up some maximum loads for it to use as a woods defense sidearm.

I have a 1006 that hasn't seen the range in 15 years. All these posts, I'm taking it out next week. I guess $400 NIB was a decent price

I bought one LNIB from Gander M.. Last summer for $599 plus tax. I garbed it. They must not have known what they had. Usually their prices are high high and higher!!!

Back in 2008, I found a 1006, 1066 and 1076, all in 99% condition. They are lovely, shoot great and in my gun safe . . . where they shall remain!

That's gotta be a record being in CA. It does seem like the majority of the ones I've seen listed for sale are in SoCal... color me DEEP green with envy.

I finally got a 1006 a few months ago after diligently checking the California gun forum classifieds for the past 3 years. It's going to be one of those "from my cold dead hands" guns.

I got lucky in mid 2008, a small local gun shop with indoor range (now closed) got the 1006 ($500) and 1076 ($450) in on consignment. After seeing their condition, I bought both.

About 4 months later I found the 99%+ 1066 at a gun show. It was hard to spot unless you were really looking, it was kind of lost in case full of plastic guns and 1911 types. The seller said $600 and I whined about how much I was going to have to pay for a spare magazine, if I could find one. I also mentioned how hard it is to find parts for "old" S&W autos. I got it for $525 out the door, that included the $25 state transfer fee. The condition was so nice I could not believe there was no box.

And here they are now, from top to bottom, 1006, 1066 and 1076:

Very nice...

Yep... I miss the days when there were still (decent) guns at a "Gun Show"

I'm still mourning the loss of the Great Western show at the LA Co. fairgrounds in Pomona. Me and a co-worker used to make the exodus yearly... would leave NoCal around 2AM Friday morning to head down I-5, get to the show when it opened Friday morning, stayed until it closed Friday night... then off to our hotel room, back to the show when it opened Saturday morning to finish off the buildings we didn't do Friday, and then high ball it back up I-5 late Saturday afternoon, and get home around 2-3 AM Sunday.

Sleep all day Sunday to recharge batteries for work Monday.

Maybe it's best the show is gone... having just turned 60, I probably would be writing a check my body can no longer cash.

It took quite a few years to round out my set. I can't imagine how long it would take and how much it would cost had I only just begun.

Best shooter for me is 1066 followed by 1026. My sentimental favorite is the 1026. My 1006 has adjustable sights, which is very handy since I tend to shoot a lot of cast loads of varying weight. Never been a DAO guy but the 1086 has got to have one of the best DAO triggers I have personally ever run across.

My "unicorn" item would be the fabled FBI extended mags of 15 rounds or something. Seen pics but never in person.

As far as gun shows go, I don't think there has been a good one in 15 years or more. Nowadays it is a bunch of guys like us that get together once a month to show and tell in various spots. They just aren't what they used to be. I wish I would have bought everything I saw 15 years ago. Of course, I didn't have the cash back then either...

The OP is correct -> S&W 10mm series are keepers to 10mm collectors, S&W collectors and afficianados of fine, semi-auto machines alike.

Would be nice if we could source 40s&w barrels. The bad man 1 project fizzled out and that is a shame as it would have increased both the interest in and utility of the 10xx guns. Barsto wants 50 barrels to make a run, but it seems too challenging a task to coordinate such an effort.

I was going to try that with mine but want to start reloading first. Pricey ammo.

Ihad to sell my 10mm. The recoil was just too painful to my arthritic wrists. Would like to have kept it, but the money was good. Sold it for 800.
