A 439 is chambered for 9mm (9mm Luger, 9X19mm, 9mm Para.) but commonly known as 9mm. What ammunition was given to you with the gun? Are you loading the magazine correctly? Sounds like you are very new to handguns. I don't mean to sound like a wise a--, but you need to seek the advice of a more knowledgeable shooter.

Bullets themselves won't "fire." They are the projectile (usually made of lead) that is forced down the barrel by the burning of gun powder in the cartridge case. The gun powder is ignited by the primer, which generates a flame when struck by the firing pin. A complete cartridge consists of the case (usually made of brass), a primer, some powder and a bullet. Such a cartridge is also referred to as ammunition.

There should be a stamp on the cartridge case head (opposite the bullet end) that should read something like "9mm Luger" or "9mm Para." or something similar. If the head stamp is something different, then you do not have the right ammunition.

At the risk of stating the obvious, I assume you know how to operate the Model 439. The Model 439 will not fire if the manual thumb safety is on. It will not fire if the magazine is not inserted properly into the butt of the pistol.

It is possible the gun has a broken firing pin, but very unlikely. I suspect you were given the wrong ammunition, perhaps something like .380ACP, which will chamber in your pistol, but will be too short to be reached by the firing pin. (Actually, the extractor will usually hold .380ACP ammunition tight enough to the breech face of a 9mm Para. chamber to be ignited by the firing pin, so you probably do not have .380ACP ammunition.)

What is the head stamp on the ammunition you were given?

there is nothing written on the bullet . Also there is nothing in the bullet it just seems like the casing. The bullet opens up and it is empty inside except for a small round metal.

OP_

From your description, you have shells, not "bullets".
Go to the sporting goods store or gun shop and buy a box of 9mm ammunition. That is what is needed to fire in your 439.

My suggestion would also be, as you appear new to firearms, to enroll in a firearms class. These are advertised often as "CCW Classes" or "concealed carry" classes. Better yet, get the help of a more experienced trusted friend to walk you through some gun-safety fundamentals.

Just trying to help,

Good luck and welcome aboard,
B

Default Please take a gun safety course before you buy any ammo

Please take a gun safety course before you buy any ammo.
You don't seem to have a clue and that can be very dangerous.
Also , please don't come to any ranges in OHIO.
