stainless hex head grip screws for M39-2?
I'm looking for some stainless steel, hex head grip screws for my M39-2. Hogue makes these for a number of different models, but not Smith & Wessons. I've Googled and found zilch. Does anyone know if these actually exist?

I would suggest that you drop this idea. The hex sizes used on these small button head screws are tiny and stripping the socket is common. We have check fixtures come in at work with these nasty little screws and I frequently have to deal with the consequence because our maintenance people are too lazy to put a fresh tip on their hex keys before trying to service these fixtures.
Take my word for it, you do NOT want these screws on your guns. Stainless steel does not develop the hardness of standard steels so those sockets will strip out more easily. End result is that you will either find they shoot loose or you'll strip the sockets trying to get them tight enough. Personally, I wouldn't use the standard steel screws because they still strip too easily, as for the stainless, only a complete idiot would use them more than once. I can guarantee you that you WILL strip a screw at least once. BTW, locktite is only the answer if you plan on NEVER EVER having to remove these nasty little screws.

In addition to the good advice given by scooter, I never use hex heads simply because I don't carry a hex driver around with me. I can, however, almost always find a flat blade or similar to tighten a slotted screw on the range, etc...

I'm not sure what thread the M39 uses, but I can tell you that the 3d Gen Hogue grips - and the CT grips which use a similar plastic grip retention block - use a 6 x 32 thread. The CT's come with a slotted filister head - which is a rather tall profile.
I needed a lower profile and prefer a hex socket for my modified CT grips for a 6906. I searched Brownells, Midway and my local Lowes without success. McMaster had what I wanted - in quanties of 10,000, which was a bit more than I needed in this lifetime.
I finally found exactly what I needed at Home Depot. I don't remember if they called it a pan head or a button head, but it was a nicely rounded low profile with a 5/64 hex socket. Stainless is soft, which is nice as they have to be cut to length (check the electrical department for a screw cutter), but the socket doesn't get buggered up like a slotted head.
FWIW, instead of an allen key type wrench - which allows a LOT of torque on the screw - I prefer to use a 1/4 inch hex bit which gives me just the right torque on my grips just using my fingers.
Hope this helps you find something you like for your 39-2.
