I purchased a new 3914 in the box with all original books and registration papers for $200. 2 magazines along with cleaning brushes and original paper wrap. I have no idea of the value of these guns. Also should I have it checked before firing it for the first time. Beautiful weapon. I called S&W and gave them the serial #. They said it was produced in Nov 1989.

I would say
you made out like the proverbial fat rat! $200 bucks!?!? Why do these deals always happen for someone else? I know you're going to enjoy that gun, & if you don't, you should be able to sell it for at least double what you payed.

Picked this 4006 up yesterday from LGS for $395 w/2 mags.
...and no sales tax in Oregon.

It had just been traded in and the prior owner was in the shop. Got to talk to him about how the pistol functioned.

Non LEO gun. Minimal exterior scuffing. No holster wear. Very little evidence of being shot. Safe queen much of its life. Feels terrific and tight. Holds real nice (really like the straight grip) and trigger breaks real nice.

Only down side is no box or original paper work.

Will shoot it this week end.

How'd I do?

I think you did very well! I have a Model 4006 Cali Parks that I enjoy shooting. That's cool that the gun walked in with the owner then walked out the door with you a little while later. You were in the right place at the right time.

Thanks.

I was happy with it when I saw it sitting there. Condition is everything and this one is clean. And the prior owner said it hit what he aimed at.

Went in looking for a 1911 and walked out with this.

Seems like a lucky find.

I think you did good for a gun with little wear. I recently got a 4006 with three mags for $400 out the door. It has a minor amount of holster wear. I love shooting it! To me, it's better than a 1911.

I'd say your the big winner, great gun for a great price. I would guess great deals are out there but you have to be in the right place at the right time. Enjoy shooting it, I enjoy the heck out of mine.

I'm proud to say that I'm doing my best to boost the 3rd gen prices, having probably overpaid for two of the last 3 S&Ws I bought. I'm too old to haggle - never liked that process anyway. If I'm tired, I take a nap. If I'm hungry, I head for the kitchen. If I see a gun I want (really want, not just mildly cotton to, I'll get it as cheaply as I can, but dad-blame it, I'm gonna git that sucka!
I take solace in the fact that I also disbursed two 3rd gen pistols at less than market value. That was to family, it's true, but the ledger is better balanced now. When my nieces decide to get rid of Uncle Thomas' pistols, they can sell them for below market value and still make money.

I agree completely, I recently missed out on this CS9 when it was sold on gunbroker. So made an offer to the winner of a Shield and $300.00. I wanted it bad, like new so ended up with over 700.00 invested, but after years of looking I got the one I wanted.

I'm beginning to think that it's a small group of us here on the forum driving up the prices, bidding against one another.

Nice one Barefootdog! Your 4006 is in slightly better shape than my 5906.

I just found a CS9 NIB with 2 mags for $600. I'm trying to free up some funds to buy it.

Compare it to anything else like a metal SIG and its an absolute steal.

Agreed, but don't forget the 100.00 for the big dog grips. Mine on the way.

There was a stainless CS9 in Austin for $400 last week that I missed out on, so I didn't feel too badly about the 908S I bought here locally.
There have been a lot of 3rd gens popping up in Texas lately all at what to my untrained eye look like good prices. I found a 909 in Austin w/ the box and stuff for $375, but the funds just aren't available. There's a 4013 TSW in the Ft Worth area for $500 w/ 2 magazines, box, paperwork, and holster and a 745 for $600 in Dallas. I don't have any interest in those, though, so I don't mind being tapped out right now.
The 908S.

The family thing is tough, ain't it? My oldest daughter wanted a nightstand gun and ended up walking out of my house with my 6906! What was I gonna say? I like the gun more than you? Anyway, I still have my well broken in 6904 that I'm kind of partial to so what the heck. Now had she started grinning at my Shortys or a TSW......glad I didn't get in that corner.

So I guess I'll have to test the market for another 6906...blank spot in the safe where a gun used to be...can't stand it.

Just 'cause I have more than one gun doesn't mean I have spares!!

Happiest I've ever been at a gun shop was getting rid of my S&W sigma series 40 towards a 1006. Both transaction made me happy inside. I hated that 40 from the first time I took it home and shot it.

I can see where that could make you pretty happy! Nothing against the Sigma series, but the SW40Ve I purchased just flat didn't work for me. I sold it early this year & put the money towards a 3rd Gen.

Back in 1994 I sold my 1006 to buy a SW40F.

I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with the 1006 (my fault not the gun).

I still have the Sigma, the most naturally point-able gun I own, and it sure did teach me trigger control.

I now have a 1006 back in the family, and thanks to the Sigma, I'm pretty darn accurate with it.

Probably should have mentioned that there was nothing wrong with Sigma 40. Reliable functioning gun but I like the big heavy guns. Polymers are not my thing. Just my preference.

You know after reading about these high prices on gen 3s let me voice my not so learned opinion I Own 3 gen 3 smiths 3913 N L 3913 L S and CS 9,WHY because they all shoot the same Fabulously!!!!!! They are as accurate as can ever. They will outshoot any Kimbers Sigs Kel Techs Brownings Colts and any other 9mm that you can mention (The only other firearms that will equal them is the glock which I own the 26 and 19 only because the State of Mass does not allow them any more and I refuse to sell a firearm) I rotate them as CC and I have one on me at all times. And smith stands behind there firearms Just had a sping problem they sent me a prepaid label and the gun was back in my hands in 2 weeks DONT BUY GUNS TO KEEP IN A SAFE BUY THEM TO USE THEM AND TO GET EFFICIENT AS HELL WITH THEM TO PROTECT YOUR LIFE AND THOSE WHO YOU LOVE

If somebody kept a Camaro for 15 years in their garage and just drove it to the grocery store every once in a while to keep the battery charged up they could probably get a very good price for it, especially if they had stopped making Camaros.
