39-2 Spurless Hammer Question

I bought a spurless hammer for the 39-2. It came with a shorter strut than the original spurred hammer. Why the short strut? Also, switched them but the new hammer wouldn't go into the frame and line up with the hammer pin. They look identical when placed together. Is there something I've forgotten to do? Thanks for your help!
