Model 41 5 1/2" Barrel Availability???
I did a search on this section and the For sale but couldn't find anything.
Just a couple quick and simple questions.
What is the probability of finding a 5 1/2" model 41 barrel, used or new?
If found what can I expect to pay for one?
S&W lists one on their site for $330.
Thanks
James

I ordered a SW barrel from Midway in late February. Backordered for a March 31, 2012 delivery. OK.
About April 1, the projected delivery slipped to March 13, 2013. I called, expressing disbelief that the delivery date could slip a year. Got a lot of sympathy and no satisfaction. Cancelled the order.
Called Clark and asked what, if anything, did they have in inventory. Was told that they had the 5.5" barrel in stock, and could "have it ready for shipment" in two weeks. I'm not sure what that means, or how it could take two weeks to package something they already had, but whatever, and placed the order. We'll see.

Bought one from Bullseye gear a couple months ago 180 or so w/o sight definitely the cheapest.
checked today all out of stock and price went to 199. Smith parts are getting hard to come by, not sure whats up .
maybe because of all the plastic gun frenzy ??? good luck Bob

Thanks for the responses.
Bumper,
Was it a S&W stock barrel that you ordered? I went to their web site and only found the custom barels listed.
Thanks all
James

I just bought one off a member here for $250 w/sights. I posted a WTB ad and he responded to it. If you are patient, they pop up time to time on the forums and on gunbroker. Post some WTB ads around and you'll probably get a response.

I have been trying to buy a factory 7 inch barrel with sights at a decent price for about a year now. Midway, Bulls Eye Gear and others have been out of stock the whole time. I haven't ried to buy one for S&W direct because I don't want to pay their price. S&W will let you put it in your cart, but because I don't want to pay their price I have not tried to actually check out (yes, I'm cheap!). So,I don't know if it is in stock or not...
Clark Custom Guns may be your only choice at present.

Been on the notify list for bullseye for several months for a 41 barrel. Same for Midway, but no luck. Tried Clark but thought they no longer carried S&W barrels for the 41, just the fancy one's they manufacture at a much higher price. Headed over there to look see.

Sorry for the delayed response.
The barrel ordered from Clark was Clark's design, 5 1/2", no sights, full rail. I was expecting at least a three week wait, but the barrel was delivered 6 days after ordering.
Nicely blued finish, matching the finish on the 30+ y.o. pistol.
Good fit-up and appears to be super accurate with a Matchdot.
However, a brief try-out today resulted in numerous fte (stovepipe) with my fav range ammo--Federal Automatch.
A few rounds of CCI didn't show the same problem. We'll see--
a trip to Clark may be in the future.

The Clark chambers are tight. You might want to try the old trick of puting a drop of oil on the top of the first round in each magazine. Ask me how I know....
