Question help with s&w 4046 tsw

I recently acquired a s&w 4046tsw serial # tdu4***. My question is in regards to another number I found on the right side of the gun SP1-067. Does anyone know what this is?

Most likely is a PD control number. My 6906 has a similar number on the right side, and it was a trade-in gun.

Yes, this was an un-issued weapon owned by a PD that upgraded to other models. and there is a number 91394 engraved on the front side. Are you saying that 11 round mags were only issued to PD's?

The eleven-round magazines were the standard capacity magazines for the 4046 pistols and were offered with the guns at the beginning of production. The ten-round magazines were offered to normal citizens during the decase of the "high-cap" ban and the eleven-round magazines were marked as "LEO" and sold to government agencies.

Now, both magazines are available to anyone unless their state of residence or the state they are currently in does not allow their usage (NY is an example).
