What's the differences????? Was looking around for one like I have (sku 108284)and it seems as if they are not made any more in favor of the E series. DO I need to junk mine and buy an E series or what????

I HAVE THE S&W 1911 FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS IN SS. IT IS A GEAT GUN, FIRES GREAT, MADE GREAT, HANDLES GREAT. THE NEW S&W IS ALSO A GREAT GUN. THEY CHANGED THE GROOVE DESIGN ON SLIDE, A VERY TIGHT EASY PULL TRIGGER AND A FEW OTHER LITTLE ADJUSTMENTS. IF YOU CAN FIND THE ORIGINAL S&W 1911 BUY IT YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT.

Can't comment to much on the original 1911's. I'm sure they are great guns. I did buy a new 1911 E with the Scandium frame. Super nice gun. Looks killer, is light weight and reasonably small frame for CC. The light weight of the frame does produce a little more kick but it is manageable for me.

I find that the differences compliment each other to the degree that owning both is the only solution!

I have basically the same set up and enjoy both. Of course, the SW1911SC is definitely a bit lighter by design but both shoot extremely well. Those who bemoan the external extractors have never owned a S&W, apparently. that's one area they definitely got it right I find them a lot more reliable than internal ones from past experience.

I love your Bobtail 1911...I have the two tone only to cut down on holster wear but can't beat the look of yours. Very nice.

I just picked up my new E-Series base model the other evening. I hope to get it to the range this weekend. The folks at my LGS are friendly but pretty blase, even about their own stock. But they all admitted to coveting this one.

The fish scale serrations and the trigger are the main differences I see. I have a e series and think pretty highly of it.

Quieter trigger on the E, the other had a tiny bit of play. I don't think the E trigger performs any better (both very good) but it doesn't make any noise when you shake the gun.

No firing pin block on the E and a bigger extractor. There may be other minor difference but nothing huge.

Outside of the cosmetics and the couple of minor things above both are S&W 1911's and shoot the same IMHO. The E is a little easier to clean without the firing pin block but outside of that they are both plain great!

New to the group/site...just thought i would offer my two cents

I recently bought a SW1911SC and really do like it. Shoots to POI very well and the recoil/muzzle flip is there it is pretty easily managed for me. I have only one major gripe about it. The frame one both sides, just outside of the grip safety, is VERY sharp and after about 40 rounds i have to put on a glove to keep the web between my thumb and index finger from getting irritated /cut.( andno ..it's not slide bite :-) I am going to call SW next week to see if they can radius the two sides down a bit so it is more comfortable for me to shoot

The E also has a titanium firing pen. Both great guns.

Besides just sounding tacti-cool, the light weight firing pin, along with a stout spring, is how the E series meets the drop safe standard. The older Smiths had firing pin safeties. Some opine that the FPS reduced the quality of the trigger.

I bought an older SW1911 5" stainless the first year they sold them. It has been a great pistol. No big complaints except that there are zero full dis-assembly, re-assembly videos or detailed instructions I can find on the net for it that take into account the firing pin block doo-dads(1). I am looking into removing the aforementioned doo-dads and replacing them with the E-Series solution.

Last year I bought a 1911SC 4.25" E-Series and it is the sweetest carry gun. Love it all but the ambi thumb safety, which is Of the Devil. Will look for a replacement, soon. Why the ambi-hate? Because when I am toting it strong side, it can be flipped off if I sit in a hard-backed chair or bench. Found that it was so flipped one evening. Yikes.

Not much sweeter than steel frame 1911 firing 45 acp or hot loaded 9x23mm !

I have an early one, serial # JREXXX. It's the very one reviewed in Gun Tests Magazine.
I like it a lot. It's size and weight make it one of the guns I rotate for CCW, and it goes to the range a lot.
